LOVED, LOVED,LOVED this chicken. Got the GRILLED chicken thighs…they come charred with a tart sauce. So yummy. We are visiting from Nashville, TN and had to come back a second time before we leave. My husband said the black eyed peas are the best he has ever had. Tonight we got the fried broccoli – it comes with pimento cheese ; delicious. Service was fast and the food came piping hot. Don’t miss this place.

Delightful experience! went for the hot and got all the flavors! Highly recommend the PDX sandwich! That fried thigh was crisp and tasty with the compliment of sauce and those unique pickles! Jojos were crisp and soft on the inside with great flavor! The husband had the Jerk sandwich which wowed him and he’s a hard sell! The jerk sauce delivered the spank, the flavor and the heat! Black eyed pea salad was so tasty and unexpectedly delicious, nothing like grandma’s 10-hour back of the stove petri-experiment.
Atmosphere was excellent, very relaxed, clean, and excellent music. Waitstaff was friendly, humorous and generous! Definitely a great place to kick off our year ahead of PDX exploration! Thanks Big’s Chicken, we will be back!

How can I start ??? if your a bodybuilder or need to gain some muscle or simply don’t have time to cook some food you will find that bigs chicken has all you need!!! You can even buy a whole chicken! I really love the chicken thighs as they are some of the juiciest and tastiest chicken thighs around even if you have a teriyaki spot forget about them lol give big chickens a chance. Also you won’t find better costumer service anywhere else I promise. If you are hungry after church as well you can go see our favorite employee. This gentleman goes by the name of earl the pearl and he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met, especially coming from the south I realized this man is a blessing and really takes his time to make sure your experience is unforgettable, every time I see him my eyes light up he’s a father figure he’s always got a smile on his face and always trying his best for the whole team but you can only catch him on Sunday!!!

Stopped in for a bite during happy hour. They offered a good selection of menu items at good prices for happy hour. We tried the popcorn chicken and smoked chicken jojos. The popcorn chicken had multiple pieces that were just breading. The dipping sauce was slightly sour, maybe intentional, but not tasty. The smoked chicken and jojos were slightly better. The chicken was tender and flavorful but way overpowered by the sauce on it. I didn’t get to finish because I found a bug that prob landed in it as there were many flying around inside. The table was sticky. The self serve utensils and cups had some really dirty ones I had to put aside. There were quite a few flying insects inside.
Overall it wasn’t great. The flavors were heavy but not in a good way and everything was over seasoned to the point of not tasting the actual ingredients but just the salt and spice. It reminded me of when my grandma would over season meat to cover up the fact that it was a bit old.

Excellent chicken, breading was delicious. Great atmosphere. I was surprised the 2 sauces are “given” in a small ramekin. I asked for 2 other sauces to try and was told they are $1 each. One of the few places I have been to that charge for sauce, couldn’t even find ketchup for the jo Jo’s.

One of my very favorite places to go in Portland, and it has been for a long time. I’m always there on a Monday, and the guys working there are really the best… both in the kitchen and the front of the house guy, always the very best, and not just to me and my daughter but to everyone who walks through the door. It speaks for a restaurant when the same guys are working for years. Every time I eat there, it feels like it was the best time. I’m always getting wings but everything there is good, jojos, sandwiches, sides, sauces, etc. The staple sauces that come with regular order wings are unbeatable, a tangy hot sauce and a creamy Alabama white. I take my dad, I take my kids, I take anybody because it’s just an excuse for me to go myself.

I don’t know if this spot gets the love it deserves but being from the south, I can definitely say Big’s Chicken is 100% legit. The food is fantastic. The sauces are superb, they have great cold beers on tap. Not that this is necessarily a sports bar but an added plus (for me at least) is that they usually have basketball or hockey on a few screens which I love a lot. If I lived closer, I would make this my frequent spot but if I’m in the neighborhood, I make it a point to stop in. Always a treat.

The thing that stuck out the most at this establishment was the decor, the seasoning, presentation, and crunch of the food.
I ordered the fried chicken sandwich a la carte, which is nice because I’m not big on jo-jo fries. The Sammie had a great crunch to it and it tasted amazing with the white gold and Fresno sauce on it. I like that they don’t drench the friend chicken in it and turn it soggy. It allows the chicken to be crunchy then with the pickles it’s on it makes it more crunchy. The potato bun was soft and pair great with everything.
Instead of fries I got a 6 piece of their wings and they did not disappoint. They smoke, then fry them and cover them in dry spice. They’re crunchy and taste very flavorful. I wish I would gotten 12. It wasn’t enough food that I went and ordered some of the fried Mac n cheese bites. Once again crunchy they blended nicely with the zesty ranch and Fresno sauce, Cheesy as well and they brought at the perfect temp not overly hot.
My girl friend ordered the PDX Hot Chicken sammie. HEADS UP the heat will catch up as you eat the sandwich. It’s not super hot, I give it a 6 out of 10, with a 10 being super hot. The zesty ranch and maple sarat gat sauce pair perfectly with the chicken thigh and remains, you guessed it, crunchy. Then you put it in between two slices of Texas toast and you get a great tasting sammie that’ll get you breathing and sweating a little.
The price is fair and I don’t think too expensive. The vibe of the restaurant is fantastic and the decor is cool. The customer service was great too, which is better than most places these days. Bigs is easy to find and Parking is easy as well.

The grilled chicken sandwich is one of the best chicken sandwiches on the planet. I far prefer it to the fried, and I love a good fried chicken sandwich. The jojos are well spiced, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. They totally nail it. I’ve had a number of other things on the menu, but keep coming back to the original. Their all day happy hour on Monday is fantastic too!

Tonight, my wife found Big’s Chicken, and we thought what the heck! Let’s give it a shot.
We ordered the Bigs family meal. A whole chicken parted. 2 large sides and a salad. The food showed up within 40 minutes of ordering and was delivered hot to the door.
Opening the bag, we received a whole bunch of different hot sauces and other sauces for dipping. The first thing you could smell is the broccoli!!!! And OMG… the broccoli is on another level, so tasty! The mashed potatoes and gravy were almost too perfect. And the coleslaw was on point.
But……. the winner was the actual chicken.. I’m not exactly sure how they fry their chicken, but I’ve never had anything like it. My mind was literally blown at how the chicken just disintegrated with an amazing crunch! The chicken was delicious and juicy. I’ve been from the east coast to the Northwest and hands down. This was the best chicken I have ever had. Highly reccomend and I honestly can’t wait to try it in person. Amazing service thank you!
