I’ll be honest when I say I was quite skeptical about this new spot when I saw a Speedy Gonzalez in the lunch specials. As I’ve stated before that’s usually a telltale sign that a Mexican restaurant is gonna be average.
So I tried something a bit different from what I usually order and got the quesabirria tacos and 1 standard beef taco on the side.
The beef taco was very ordinary and nothing special. The birria tacos were actually quite tasty though. They’re served with onion and cilantro and a hearty beef broth for dipping. The broth definitely adds a unique flavor to the tacos.
The quesabirria tacos were supposed to come with rice but I initially didn’t get any. I asked an employee about the missing rice and she said they don’t come with rice. Thankfully I already had the menu pulled up on my phone and I showed her and another server who joined in the conversation. He noticed the error, apologized and quickly brought out the rice. I will say the rice was a bit better than your average Mexican restaurant rice.
The service, other than the rice mishap, and atmosphere were both good. They have a few tv’s but the place is a bit small and can fill up quickly. The chips and salsa were ok but the salsa was a bit spicy for my taste. But I’ll admit I’m a wimp when it comes to spice so it’s probably fine for most folks. I’ll just offer a suggestion that they make sure all the employees are familiar with the menu and know what comes with what.

They offer a robust menu and I was looking forward to working my way through it.
I tried the Pina burrito, which was mostly meat and right up my alley. I appreciated that the menu has alot of pictures
Skip the fried ice cream, it’s not fried- is a scoop of ice cream drowning in whip cream served in a crispy bowl.
What killed the rating was the service. Long story short, not great.
I will come back to try the other menu items that caught my eye. Keep expectations of service to the bare minimum. And skip the fried ice cream, seriously.

Very good food, a notch above Senior Tequila and El Mezcal. A great addition to the Heights. The service is exceptional and quick. The Skinny Margaritas are a must try!

Let the first messed up to-go order slide and that was my mistake. Sent me out with the entire wrong order this time. They offered to refund if I drove all the way back to the restaurant OR have the food freshly made. It really needs to be standard practice to offer food and a refund when wasting so much of someone’s time. Won’t be coming back. Be sure you have them double check to-go orders!

The cheese dip is bad. It’s like it has cottage cheese or something mixed in it. Reminds me of Purple Cow’s cheese dip. I ordered an entree which did not show or list guacamole or sour cream on the salad, but it came with both, which ruined it for me. It should be the same as the menu indicates. Otherwise, it was ok. The service was fine.

Decided to try mucho loco since the other Mexican restaurant nearby was really busy. So glad we did! Super nice staff, very clean establishment and delicious street tacos!! And their house salsa was fire too, highly recommend giving them a try. We will have to come back when we’re in town.
