I had the bison burger and the word that keeps coming to mind to describe the eating experience is “comforting”. It made me want to take my time and savor each bite. I’ll definitely be back.
As for the food, if I wanted heat and eat food I would have stayed home. The prices were too high for the quality and portion size.
Given this is the only thing in town, I see why people eat there. But it is an option of necessity—not choice.
Now our next 2 visits were a different story. The restaurant was busy today and we were seated in the back area and it took a good while to even place our order. The food did not come out together at all, it was like every 8 minutes or so each one of us would get part of our order. There were 5 people in our group. 1 of the burgers came out with bacon and we asked for the burger without bacon as 1 of us can’t have bacon, so we sent that back. About 10 minutes later the 2nd burger came out and it was about 90% raw after being asked for well done. My Buffalo chicken sandwich this time had no Buffalo sauce on it at all. Certainly not like the first 2 I’ve had here. The wings today were very bland and not hot to the touch at all. The chicken sandwich had no tomatoe this time either. The fries on the first few visits had seasoning on them, today not even salt was added. It’s almost like it’s an entirely different cook now verses the 1st few trips we made. The Buffalo shrimp came on a bed of lettuce originally now it’s just shrimp with hardly any sauce. The hamburger steak and gravy is very light on the gravy and it is as thin as water. I hope they go back to the way they were last week. The waitress said the owner was there and would let them know about the issues today but unfortunately it wasn’t important enough for him to come see us. They removed the braw burger but honestly about 80% of what we had today went in the trash. Please go back to the way you were!!
I didn’t expect to see the great options on the menu, so it was hard to choose, everything sounded good. And I thought all choices were reasonably priced.
I decided on chopped steak with onions and gravy with mashed potatoes. (Would’ve liked to had a roll included with meal, but I didn’t need the carbs).
It was very good, potatoes were fresh made, not instant! My son got the Steak salad, and they asked how he wanted it cooked, as the waitress left, he sd that means it’s cooked fresh to order. He was impressed when he saw it and sd it was delicious (and he used to be a chef!) His wife ordered the Bourbon Chicken and sd it was terrific. Of course the way she raved about it she had to give us a taste. And it really was good! We had sweet Tea & Pepsi.
I’ll definitely recommend them and look forward to eating there again soon.
They are on Main St, just a couple blocks from the main hwy, rt.29 and Washington st.
I’m pleased that we have a good restaurant in our little town. I hope locals will keep them busy so they stay open. Some businesses at that location hasnt done well long term. So much better than chain restaurants!
The bill was almost 15$ without tip, he waited over 20 minutes and this is what I got: tightly wrapped in a foil and placed inside a standard plastic convenience bag. The bun was so wet from steam and tomatoe juice that it was paper thin and floppy from being soaked through. It was over cooked, onions were disappointing for a 2$ charge and I wasn’t even informed it came with a side as there isn’t a price for just a single burger. This is the 3rd time having a horrible experience. I live in Sperryville so of course it wasn’t worth the time driving back to return it. I don’t understand how they stay open serving food this way. I will make sure to pass around my experience and recommend NOT eating at this establishment.
Their burgers are great, quarter pound all beef patty burgers cooked to perfection with homemade potato chips. They did not disappoint. We would recommend this if you’re looking for good burgers.
