A friend introduced us to this spot tucked away in the back of Victory Lab. We ordered slices instead of a whole pie to try it out, and we both agreed these were some of the best pizza slices we’ve had in a while. The crust is super crispy and thin, the cheese isn’t heavy, and it’s not overly oily or something that makes you feel gross after eating. The slices are also a great size. My only complaint is the limited topping options. I wish they offered a few more. That said, the pizza is especially delicious when it’s hot and tastes very fresh.
Pancetta & Shallot ($6.50): Ricotta cream, mozzarella, caramelized shallots, pancetta, and chives. This was my favorite of the two. I preferred the flavor combination and found it more balanced.
Caramelized Beef & Jalapeño ($5.50): Tomato sauce, mozzarella, caramelized beef, and fresh and roasted jalapeños. This was my husband’s favorite. I liked the overall flavor, but the texture of the beef was a bit strange to me.
Hot Honey Sauce ($1): Served on the side. It has a thinner, more liquid texture rather than a thick drizzle, so it can get messy if you don’t fold your slice.
We paired our pizza with drinks from Victory Lab and enjoyed the live music while catching up with friends. It was a perfect way to end the night.

Side Piece Pies has a quaint storefront inside Victory Lap Rainey and, for me, is the highlight of the bar. The slices and whole pies are definitely on the expensive side; however, they’re more upscale pizzas.
This slice comes with ricotta dollops on top, which add a nice bit of flavor depth. I made a point to try a few bites without the dollops to get a holistic opinion of the slice. This is certainly a cheese-forward slice. I love cheese, but wow- there is a lot of it. The red sauce, for what you can taste, is actually quite good. The crust is a little on the thicker, doughier side. However, the bottom is crisped very well, so despite that it’s still a satisfying bite.
Usually, this type of crust would be a dealbreaker for me. I genuinely can’t put my finger on what makes it appealing this time around, but I found myself quite enjoying it.
