Pretty decent and cheap sub shop. The portions are actually very large for the price, and it makes sense why the students seem to flock here when school is in session. I got to try their chicken parm sub and the regular grilled chicken sub (they called it the chicken filet or something).

Both were quite nice. The chicken parm sub had tons of tomato sauce and the breading, although a bit uneven, wasn’t bad. The chicken seemed decently fresh too. Bread is average. They included Mayo in all their subs, which is interesting, but not that unwelcome. Average cheese.

The regular chicken was interestingly superior. It was lighter and creamier at the same time? Probably the Mayo not being overpowered by the tomato sauce. But truly, the price for the portion is really, really nice.

Yikes! Stopped in before doing a college campus tour of Slippery Rock University expecting “America’s Best Subs” as advertised on their building…. They got me…. Don’t eat here. We paid $50 dollars for 3 subs, 3 bags of chips, and 3 drinks. My wife asked for a “bit” of mustard on her sub. As you can see in the photo, she got a sub swimming in mustard. The guy who took our order was not welcoming (no greeting, no assistance with ordering process, and looked miserable) Hospitality business with no hospitality…. The bathrooms, signage, and atmosphere should have been enough to turn any customer away but we were hopeful. Hey, Bob’s Subs & Sandwich Shop, do better… it’s not that hard…

Ehh, I’ve tried to give this place / location several chances and unfortunately I’m just continuously disappointed. They are skimpy on toppings. The bread is very skinny like, if that makes sense. It’s not wide like say subway or fox’s bread. Overall it’s just not worth the money imo.
You can goto any place else and get a far superior sub/sandwich for the same or lesser price.

It tastes good, it just lacks sufficient toppings. The prices should reflect in the toppings and they don’t

The handful of times I’ve been there, I’ve never seen the same person twice.
College town, college employees and they obviously don’t care.

I’m a student at Slippery Rock and wanted to clear the air on a few things.

For starters, I LOVE Bob’s; anytime I want a sub, this place is my go-to. Today, in celebration of the first day of the spring semester, I got myself my usual turkey and ham, but as a giant instead of a senior-sized sub.

There’s a generous portion of toppings on this, including the meat. Now, I will say, as someone who worked at a sub place at one point, the more toppings you get, the more it will seem there’s an uneven ratio of meat to topping, and that’s because there is. This is because they need to be able to close the sandwich.

I get the standard veggies/sauce, which would be lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and Italian dressing. Three veggies at most is the sweet spot for a reasonable distribution of toppings.

Now, after this is said and done, is the price a bit much compared to Subway? Yes, yes it is, but as someone who studies Economics, there are trade-offs we must consider, and I promise you the only negative one in this case is the steeper price tag.

Overall, I love Bob’s, and even though there are better local sandwich shops elsewhere, this is the undisputed champion in Slippery Rock, PA.

To the owner: I love how you stand up for your employees when people who have the customer service standards of one staying at a Ritz-Carlton have the audacity to complain, especially when there are kids working just to get by with bills. And P.S., bring back the old bread recipe please!

Maybe it’s hometown bias, but I really do think these are some of the best subs out there. I get the cheese one and have yet to find one better in any sub shop I’ve been to around the country. I think the secret is the bread, which is more like a soft po-boy bread than a traditional sub bread. Anyways it’s a nice college-town atmosphere, the staff have always been nice, and the prices are good, especially when it seems like everywhere else you go is expensive.

I never make bad reviews and it pains me to do so, especially to a small business, but as someone who has had salmonella before and wouldn’t wish a food borne illness on my worst enemy I feel the need to inform people on what I witnessed while ordering food. I was there the other day and was rather disgusted with the employee that was taking orders and making the subs. He was an older gentleman.
Firstly, he did not change gloves between making subs, touching door handles, my credit card, and the kiosk they take orders on. His gloves were stained orange which showed me that he had been wearing them for quite some time. The cross contamination in this place is disgusting.
Secondly, while taking orders, he kept spitting and wiping his mouth with his gloved hand. So on top of all the other surfaces he touched with the gloves he used to prep food, he touched his mouth and saliva and continued to use the same gloves to make our subs. He kept apologizing for spitting, but did nothing sanitary to actually fix the situation.
Thirdly, he never stopped talking. He continued talking to his coworker while they both made subs. Based on the spitting that occurred while just taking my order I could only imagine how much of it made it onto my food. He also cussed a lot. There were quite a few customers around and could clearly be heard by everyone. As someone who also works with customers and food I can understand having a bad day, but cursing in front of customers is not okay. Customer service is so important for a business and it was not a good look for this place.

Objectively still a good sub, but it tastes nothing like it used to. The bread is wildly different than the old rolls, and the meat is much higher quality than previously. If you’re in Slippery Rock looking for a good sub, check them out. If you’re an alum looking to relive a college lunch, leave the memories alone.

I got the “Super”. It was delicious. The bread/meat/cheese/toppings ratio was spot on. I don’t know if it lives up to the “best sub in America” they claim, BUT, it is very good and I will be back when I am in town!

I am a long time customer and was recently devastated to find out that my favorite part of a Bob’s Sub, the delicious bread, was changed! The new bread is lacking the flaky texture and homemade quality that really made the subs special and different from others around. I’m not sure of the reason for the change, but I know that I am disappointed and unsure that I will continue to return even after 20+ years of patronage.

Best sub shop in the area for sure!!! Eat here if you are ever in the area. Our favorite is the roast beef sub.
Last time we were here, we did an online order, and it was ready upon arrival which was convenient 🙂 I would recommend ordering this way.
The shop itself smells a little old, but it’s apart of the experience/worth it for the subs.
