Recently discovered this hidden gem – go here for a wonderful neighborhood diner atmosphere (they were featuring jazz from the 20’s and 30’s while I was there) with food that tastes home cooked and the kindest service from people who’ve been running the restaurant for 50+ years. Everything we ordered was so yummy, but I can’t recommend the clam chowder enough. I just spent 2 years on the Monterey Peninsula, but the Cove’s clam chowder was better than anything I had down there. Go here!

Absolutely loved our experience! Classic Castro in all ways, including historic artwork to perfect location and most importantly stellar service, literally… “Stella” was stunning in every way and will return because of her! Our breakfast and experience was absolutely perfect!

This legendary cafe was there on Castro back in the 90s, and unlike many businesses which have disappeared, is thankfully still there! Sassy waitresses work hard to serve the breakfasts from the large menu and all is good value.

The food here is always delicious and comes out fast and hot. The young African American server was very nice and attentive. This will always be one of my favorite breakfast spots in the city.

Disappointing Experience – Won’t Be Returning I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent visit to *The Cove* in the Castro was frustrating enough to warrant one. Upon arriving with a friend, not a single staff member acknowledged us—no greeting, no eye contact, nothing. We stood there awkwardly for nearly 20 minutes before someone finally handed us menus.

Unfortunately, it didn’t get any better. After waiting an additional 10 minutes to place our order—despite raising our hands and clearly trying to get the staff’s attention—we were completely ignored. Several employees saw us and chose to look the other way.

At that point, we decided to leave. It’s incredibly disappointing to be treated with such indifference, especially in a neighborhood known for its welcoming spirit. I have no plans to return and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone expecting even basic customer service.

Great iconic restaurant in the Castro. Service is very attentive and friendly. Coffee is fresh and made locally. The food was good.

I had the omelet with toast and hash browns. The omelet was soft and had just the right amount of filling. Prices were reasonable. Lots of regulars come here.

They have all you can drink mimosa.

A MUST!!! I was literally waiting to review this place. I LOVE IT!!!
Not only the location is awesome, also the staff is super friendly and helping a lot. I could even mix and match my 2-2-2 breakfast with a special pancake they offered and it was served all in an exceptional, professional and loving way.
Esthetic and beautiful!
That’s how I love to start a morning (especially a Monday morning when visiting San Francisco and the Castro district).

The food is on the pricy side because of location, not quality. My burger was great but they were out of some cheese options. The staff was nice and helpful.

The veggies in general were low quality. The side salad with my burger was such low quality ingredients I didn’t finish it. Even the celery in my Bloody Mary was subpar. Veggies in burger brought down the overall quality.

They can easily do better on this issue, especially with their prices.

My Bloody Mary lacked flavor despite asking for it spicy. First red flag was the major lack of ground pepper.

They have indoor and outdoor seating.

I likely won’t be back given the other options in the area.

Food
I had the cove combo, two eggs, two bacon and half waffle. It was good. I accompanied it with a mango mimosa and that was good and refreshing. The vegetarian curry is good as well.

Service
Staff is awesome, super friendly and attentive. We got here like 30 min eights before they closed and their service was pretty good.
