This place is absolutely outstanding. Their fried chicken is definitely in the top three I have ever had. Their food is all delicious as comfort food, country cooking, or old fashioned German influenced recipes. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and kept very clean. The service is great and they can make legit menu recommendations. Save room for their pies becase they make them fresh daily. It is easy to find using Google Maps with plenty of free parking.

The food was pretty good. I tried the fried chicken quarter (white meat) with German potato salad warm and vinegar coleslaw. The fried chicken was pretty good and most likely better hot. The potato salad was good as well with a creamy texture. The coleslaw was excellent with just the right hint of vinegar and the vegetables were Julienne so well and the mix was outstanding versus a brunoise cut. I ordered a sweeet tea and got a free refill prior to leaving. The hostess/waitress was friendly and considerate. My meal took 30 minutes to prep. I recommend calling ahead if you can’t stand to wait. The decor has historical pictures to include seasonal. The bar area is seperated like in Euro eateries. The staff was busy setting up for a party of 14 when I arrived. The Haubstadt library is across the train tracks and Town Hall.

We were there around 4:00 PM on New Year’s Eve 2025. I was very excited because I had dined at the Carriage Inn a few times up until 2023 when I would meet my friend before she passed away. It was always delicious. Don’t know what has happened. My husband and I ordered fried mushrooms and they were pretty good, but a small portion. I understand that different establishments serve different amounts. We were to receive horseradish sauce to dip them in. Couldn’t barely taste the horseradish. I ordered livers and gizzards and my husband had one of their specials – a $30 steak. We each had a combination salad. Mine was to have blue cheese dressing. It had no taste to it. It just tasted like maybe sour cream and mayo. I informed a worker and she apologized and brought 2 other small plastic cups with different dates on them. They both tasted the same as the first. She never checked back to make sure they were ok. and i just chose not to eat my salad. When my meal came, I had the smallest serving of mashed potatoes and gravy I think I had ever seen. My husband said his steak was not of good quality and not tasty. His baked potato had all the toppings (loaded) in separate small plastic containers. He is not a fru fru kind of guy by any means, but he was not a fan of having to load his own baked potato.

We ordered bread pudding to go, hoping a little sweet would revive the experience. Nope. I carefully warmed the bread pudding later that evening and it was so incredibly dense and tasted a little like a refrigerator. We didn’t even eat it.

The service was meh. We had to ask our server for more water. It just felt like we didn’t even get bare minimum attention or appreciation for being there, but were treated like we were just mouths to feed quickly. I know this sounds harsh. But the feelings are there. It was New Year’s eve but the restaurant was maybe only half full. It could have been we encountered so many issues with the entire meal that it exacerbated the experience.

I contemplated whether or not to even write this review. I very rarely write them, and usually do so when the food and service is outstanding. We may have dined when things happened to be off there for some reason. But, i hope the owners consider our experience and use the information to make any needed changes.
The livers and gizzards were as delicious as I remember them. I would think that sticking with the fried chicken meal done family style would still be a good bet.
All together, with no beverages other than water, and no alcohol, our bill (not including tip) was right at $75. The positive note is we will be saving money this year. Our New Year’s resolution is to avoid eating out as much as possible in 2026. So far so good!

I tried chicken Alfredo and it is the worst pasta dish. Over cooked noodles and bland sauce that didn’t even coat all the noodles.even the breadstick wasn’t edible to my 9 year old.

My parents have been raving about this place lately and we finally all went tonight. We did the family style dinner and it didn’t take too long to come out. They even said you can call ahead and they can have the food ready by the time you arrive which was pretty cool. The fried chicken was my favorite ♥️

I ordered a Pepsi, sweet corn nuggets, and a BLT with mayo on the side. The Pepsi was huge! It had to be 44 oz which was awesome. The sweet corn nuggets were some of the best I’ve ever had. I highly recommend giving them a try. The BLT, served on homemade bread, was very good. Plenty of mayo in a small container on the side. The french fries were the only downside to the meal. They were undercooked and under seasoned. This place is comfort food at its finest.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE FIND! Never in my days have I included a picture of a urinal in a bathroom in any bathroom in this world in this world. OMG…take a.look at the urinals at the Carriage Inn (below) !!!

NOW THE FOOD…fresh cooked with generous portions. I had one of the best smoked smoked pork cuts that I have ever had. The appetizers were numerous and great value.

This is an incredible medium-sized place to dine. I will make it a destination.

It was busy when we arrived and so we were in the bar by the hostess. It was freezing cold. in there. I actually went to the car to get our jackets. Took a while for bartender to get to our table. She was friendly and apologetic for taking so long. Ordered fried chicken livers, mash potatoes, and green beans. There was a heaping amount and fried just perfect. Mash potatoes were hot , green beans had nice flavor but were cold. Also ordered grilled salmon, german fried potatoes, and green beans. The salmon was cooked very well done and was dry, potatoes were fine, but once again, green beans were cold. I asked for some melted butter to put over salmon to help make it not so dry. ( It helped a little. ) it was just overcooked to the point that it seemed burnt. The bartender was too busy to come to the table to check on us. Seemed a little overpriced. We may give it another try and hopefully sit in the dining room.

First time visit and we went on New Years. Was all booked but they gave us a table that had a later reservation so we could eat. Food was amazing. Service was amazing. Our waitress was Rose and she was so sweet and helpful. We will definitely be back.
