The first warning was when I approached the door and it was for a hamburger spot called Woosmash. Confused, I thought I went to the wrong address only to realize this was in fact Bloom Chicken due literally to a piece of paper posted on the door saying “Bloom Chicken” on it. I approached the counter and saw an array of iPads and attempted to order, only to see the burger menu and burger store name was on all the devices and had no idea how to access the actual Bloom Chicken menu on them. I asked the guy behind the counter and after fiddling with one device, he gave up and took my order directly off the register device. He kind of was not 100% familiar with the Bloom Chicken options, as if the burger menu was where all his training and focus was (he even offered me items off that menu even though I told him I was not there for a burger).
The Bloom Chicken in Hackensack presented and served their food in bento type boxes, great display and you can see the quality of the food and care taken (even the Jersey City location). I knew I wasn’t going to get the same level when I seen a mountain of to go boxes stacked up on the counter and all the 5 flavors I ordered where going to be put in 5 boxes vs one or crammed into two boxes.
My second warning sign was that there was one guy cooking all the food between both store menus and he looked extremely overwhelmed between the walk ins and door dashers. Another person was there but he was more support and an extra hand as the guy behind the register gave the overwhelmed cook the orders verbally so I’m assuming he’s the main cooker. But I relented and ordered anyway. And loe and behold all flavors were put into 2 boxes, but ok, D for presentation I can live with that, let’s see the quality of the food.
And to the owners please take note here: The food was not cooked all the way. This was my main reason I stopped eating, and also told my kids to not eat it. I took one bite and tasted that the chicken was not fried long enough to be actually cooked. I tasted the other boxes and it was the same and I immediately threw the food away and told my kids not to even taste it. That there is 100% unacceptable.
Second the flavors were absent. Bloom Chicken normally has you pick up to 5 flavors and each bento box slot has the flavors you picked in them. At this location the flavors were barely sprinkled on it and you barely tasted any difference between the boxes other than the taste of semi-raw chicken. Again to the owners: please check your quality. I can forgive going cheap on the seasoning, but not cutting corners and offering half cooked food.
Needless to say, I will NEVER be going here and I urge the owners to take note and pick a side: you’re either a burger joint called Woosmah or a chicken joint called Bloom Chicken. You can’t be both. You attempting to cook both menus is not working out in your favor. And I also wonder if the franchise owners of Bloom Chicken are even aware of how the Verona location is representing them (poor signage, poor to zero menu display, poor representation of a small growing brand, zero on food quality).
I would not be coming here again and I hope the owners of this location make the needed food quality changes because you cannot afford to sell uncooked food to customers. That’s where every consumer should draw the line.
