I went last week for champurrado after El Gallo Bakery ran out. There was a line of about 5 people in front of me right before they closed for the night. And the champurrado was more like hot chocolate LITERALLY! They don’t use flour and it doesn’t have a very cinnamony taste to it either. And then I went a few days ago as soon as they opened to try the tamales since I saw almost everyone buying them the previous time I was there. Well, they’re a good size for $3 BUT the masa is more on the dry side even though the pork in Chile rojo tamales taste good BUT I got a mouthful of a long, dark straight hair that really disgusted me so much. Why? Are they not wearing hairnets to make them. Never again!! And the cheese ones, even though full of cheese just don’t really taste that great to me. And the chicken ones are so dry. My friend said they tasted a week old and I get a piece to try it and I had to agree. I was so disappointed that I bought 8 tamales and this is what happened plus they only labeled the chicken en chile verde ones.

This place has been here since I was a lil girl. I remember it was one of the most talked about tamales and to this day it’s still WOW. Champurrado is so good,
The JAMAICA delicious I love the tacos dorados with shredded beef. I need to try other plates but are still delicious. Still recommend it

The tamales here are hearty and flavorful, and they have a big variety to choose from. My favorite is the green chile with cheese. The portions are filling, and the masa is soft but not mushy. It gets packed during holidays, so I recommend ordering ahead. It’s one of the few places that still feels like a true family-run kitchen

I only gave LILIANA’S TAMALES one star because the algorithm doesn’t allow me to write my opinion if I give ZERO stars. First of all….STOP LYING PEOPLE about saying that your tamales are fresly made every day. I stop by your location at First Street / Indiana. I bought 1 and 1/2 dozens of tamales(one of chicken, and one of cheese)for dinner. Second,YOUR TAMALES WERE HARD AS ROCK,FLAVORLESS, DRY…and I can better describe them with one word…”OBNOXIOUS “. I as a MEXICAN can say that you previously froze the tamales because even the chicken was very dry and hard.Third, stop making profits from selling bad tamales.I would recommend to those who are thinking about ordering tamales for the Holydays to go to another place.I hope my review help people NOT TO BE FOOLISHED like I was.

Outrageously good tamales @ $2! I had one with chicken and vegetables, served piping hot – I needed napkins to unwrap. Perfect Masa, nice chunks of shredded chicken with corn, Lima beans and carrots. Red and green salsa complete the dish.

No parking close by, Metro Gold line stops a block and a half away on Indiana just south of 1st.

The tamales are not the greatest. They are overrated and expensive. Even though this place is in the heart of East LA, the food doesn’t taste like real Mexican food. Also, I didn’t have cash and they charged me 4% extra for using Apple Pay. I think that’s a little bit too much. I would understand $1 or $2 dlls but $5.00 for using my debit card that’s a little bit too much. Not coming back.
