We had a pleasant lunch in Ann Arbor at Zingerman’s Delicatessen. The food was extremely fresh and well prepared, with generous portions and great flavor.

I ordered the Caesar salad with chicken, which was crisp, well dressed, and tasted very fresh without being overly heavy. My partner chose the classic pastrami sandwich, and it absolutely delivered—tender, flavorful meat with high-quality bread that made it feel like a true deli staple.

We also shared a couple of sides, including the chipotle chicken pasta salad and the oranges and beets. Both were excellent additions to the meal and complemented the main dishes well. Everything we tried was very tasty and clearly made with quality ingredients.

Service was quick and efficient, making it an easy stop for lunch without feeling rushed. Prices are moderate to high, but the quality of the food, portion sizes, and overall experience made it worth it. If you’re looking for a satisfying and delicious lunch in Ann Arbor, Zingerman’s Deli is a great choice.

The only reason we’re giving it a 4/5 is because we spent $70 total for a lunch for two people, even the foundation soda was $3.99. Seems just like really steep prices for a deli.

There are places that get famous and then coast. Zingerman’s is not one of those places. I went in with expectations that had been built up by years of hearing about it, and somehow it still exceeded them. The deli has been open since 1982 in the Kerrytown neighborhood of Ann Arbor, and by now it feels like it’s woven into the actual fabric of the city. Which is to say walking in feels less like going to lunch and more like going somewhere that matters.
The space is part store, part deli counter, part controlled chaos. There are ordering kiosks now, though staff are nearby if you have questions, which is good because the sandwich menu alone could take fifteen minutes to parse. The ingredients are listed on every item like they’re proud of them, which they should be. Everything is sourced intentionally, the corned beef, the pastrami, the breads baked at their own Bakehouse a few miles away.
I got the corned beef Reuben, which is the thing most people get first. What comes out is a sandwich that requires two hands and some commitment. The rye bread is grilled and has real weight to it, the corned beef is piled high and deeply flavored without being salty, and the sauerkraut and Russian dressing pull it together in the way that a Reuben is supposed to but usually doesn’t. My friend ordered the pastrami Reuben on pumpernickel and was similarly quiet for a few minutes after the first bite, which I took as a good sign. We also split a matzo ball soup, which is comfort food in the truest sense, broth that tasted like it had been going for days, soft matzo ball, simple and perfect.

A med tech from UpfM recommended Zingermann’s when we were visiting and we’re glad he did. The place has loads of character and charm, it combines the best of quirkiness and a timeless college town vibe. Tons of sandwich choices, we got the corned beef as well as the turkey, both recommended by a regular. Loads of meat and cole slaw and cheese on toasted and buttered rye. For some reason the large is like $2 more than the small; go large and bring the rest home. Worth the trip to Ann Arbor.

Oh man. The pulled-pork sandwich is such a bomb. It’s my first time visiting US and this sandwich alone makes me want to visit Ann Arbor again. I don’t usually write food reviews but wanted to express my appreciation. Thanks for the delicious foods!

It was a little chaotic, but that seems to be their vibe.
The deli counter was crazy busy, but beautiful presentation of delightful cheeses, meats and bread.
Ordering was fun using their screen and very helpful staff for questions.
Our two corned beef sandwiches, bowl of chicken broth and matzo ball soup came out fast.
Finding a table was easy.
The food was delicious! Large hunk of rye bread came with each soup. The sandwiches were stacked high.
Our meal came to around $70 with tip.
Looking forward to returning.

We used to love coming here, after 8 years away things had changed. #1 you order everything on the kiosk and not much help from a real person #2 We like a more moist and fatty meat and was told maybe not possible. #3 At checkout they ask if we wanted to tip; 20% or 25%? We gave 5% as they only hand you the food. We have to get our own drinks and clean our table after eating.

This is the kinds of restaurants we don’t like. Why ask for tips like a full sit down restaurant when it’s not.

The food? It’s was ok only, not as good as we remember it. $60 for 2 sandwiches and drinks.

We finally made it, the day before our son’s graduation from Michigan! We had lunch and our sandwiches were delicious! We also got to taste some incredible olive oil (and bought some). Everyone was in red friendly and helpful. It definitely lived up to the hype!

Visiting outside of lunch hours and still needing to wait 30 minutes for a single sandwich felt pretty wild — but honestly, that just proves how popular (and delicious!) this spot is ✨
And yes… the wait was totally worth it. The food was amazing, and it’s so rare to find a pesto–cheese smoked chicken sandwich this good. Even now, just thinking about it makes my mouth water all over again

Absolutely the best deli in the nation. Missing it so much, I ordered pasaeno and sourdough loaves with jumbleberry coffee cake in the mail. Love going to Ann Arbor and won’t miss a time to go back there. I had the Reuben, it was so good!

I finally tried this local institution and it wasn’t worth the expense or hassle.

I came an hour before closing and the place was deserted, which is preferable. Normally the line circles the block. The deli staff were quick to acknowledge me and the cheesemonger was quick and generous with a sample and offered more, but one was enough for me. I was directed to a kiosk and ordered a pastrami reuben, a side of garlic potato salad, a side of BonTon chicken pasta salad, one of each type of pickle and a piece of cake. The order totaled $46.

The reuben was stone cold in the middle, the cheese wasn’t melted. The garlic potato salad was under salted and tasteless. Adding salt helped but it needed to be added to the potatoes during cooking to properly season the dish. The BonTon chicken pasta salad had very little chicken but was well seasoned was the best part of the meal. The buttermilk cake was inedible. The cake was dry, flavorless, dry and crumbly. The berry flavored buttercream tasted artificial, and the buttercream around the rest of the cake was very thick in excess of one inch at the top. The final insult, was I paid for two pickles and received neither.

A sandwich is more than the sum of it’s parts; the assembly nearly as important and in this case, for nearly $24 it should have been perfect. It wasn’t even close.

For nearly $50 everything should have been on point and it just failed to meet the mark. Go once to say you’ve been there but otherwise give it a miss; there’s better deli out there.
