Great for our large party seating. We sat on the patio overlooking the water & boats. Weather couldn’t have been better. Drinks were great, atmosphere was great, & food was great. Not what I’d call standard Mexican but more Americanized Mexican. We enjoyed being able to all sit together & enjoy rambunctious laughter & conversation without feeling like we infringed on other customers activities.

We were in town picking up a vehicle at the shop and asked the owners for a dinner recommendation. All said the Cantina was the place to go.

Had we checked Yelp first, we may not have given them a shot. Worth noting, a lot of the 1-star reviews seem to be when the place was under different ownership. We concur about the salsa being a miss but disagree with the vast majority of the negative comments.

Drove past a place that was full of vacation people to get there. We were really glad to see a parking lot that wasn’t stuffed full of plenty of cars. No overflow parking meant no issues getting in and out in a reasonable amount of time.

I ordered the Alambre. Basically fajitas with cheese. Available with chicken or steak, I chose the steak. What I was served was pretty dang delicious! I enjoyed the big pile of peppers and onions that was mixed in with the steak (and a little bacon – everything is better with bacon!) and ate a little with knife and fork before filling and enjoying 3 flour tortillas full. Not a small portion!

Wife had their mole. Made in-house and better than my dinner.

Had a great visit with the super-sweet owner. Can’t wait to try their house tequila on the next visit. Apparently, they buy by the cask and have it bottled for them.

We live about a half-hour north and don’t get to Chetek very often but will definitely be back!

Of note: we visit some of the parts of Mexico not seen in airline commercials. While the salsa is Americanized to the point of being nearly bland, the mole was authentic and proper! If we were served that dish in Oaxaca it would not be surprising. Being served that dish in Chetek, Wisconsin…very surprising! Nicely done, folks!

Food was good and plentiful, nice band and atmosphere festive. Wait staff was pretty busy but missed a couple things on our order and apologized kindly. I would go back and recommend to others.

Always a fun place to visit, whether docking the pontoon from a day of fishing or just popping in for a bite and some brews. Staff are super friendly; Betsy is the best bartender! Very good Tex Mex cuisine. Lovely decor for a great up north feel. The place is always busy. There’s a boat landing as well.

Brady welcomed us as we approached seating with our dog, he kindly pointed to our choice of several times in and out of the sun! He filled our pups bowl up with ice water which was greatly appreciated. We have been to the Lakeside Catina yearly for several years and have always been pleased. Now with new renovations this restaurant will be the place to go. Luve music during the summer, great docking for boats and a terrific menu. Dont skip this spot, you wont be sorry. Our server was the very best!

This place was absolutely phenomenal.

As far as the outside, the entrance doesn’t scream “eat here”, but you will regret not trying the food. I speak this based on only the entryway. Outside on the patio has perfect spot for eating while enjoying a phenomenal view of the lake of course on a much warmer day.

After going in the sign was a bit confusing stating to see the bartender if there isn’t a hostess ready and we were about to head that direction a lady came and helped us. Our waitress gets a 10/10. We arrived before the dinner rush and received top notch service. Our waitress was making sure we were happy with our food choices, had great suggestions and made an effort to make sure we had what we needed without being over bearing.

Is it just me or do they usually pop over to the table right after you take a bite of food? Not ours!! must have wanted to hear our honest opinion. We also had another waiter stop over and ask how the food was.

Now, on to the food…. Make sure to read the surprising end!

Our drinks came fast and tasted wonderful. My husband ordered the most delicious Mango Margarita while I ordered water, I know cliché, and coffee.

The chips, salsa and queso were delish. The only downfall for me is when I asked for spicier salsa, they had a jalapeño purée, which wasn’t that spicy and wasn’t at all salsa. I however like quite a bit more spice than that.

The fajitas were amazing.

I order the taquitos and they are the best I’ve had! The plate display was great and the taste was top-notch.

We ended with fried ice cream. My husband collaborated with our waitress to have her put my wedding ring in the ice cream. I am already married but on kid five, with all the swelling I wasn’t able to wear my ring. It was adorable! The fried ice cream was to-die-for and the display made me believe they have a five star culinary chef in the kitchen.

The price was reasonable for the amount of food.

I will end with… if you’ve made it this far, the food was absolutely incredible and you won’t regret it.

The lake views would be really nice when the weather is good enough to sit outside. The food was okay. I did like the beans. The sauce seemed to be from a can and it was really salty. Our waitress was friendly. The decor did not feel very much like a Mexican restaurant. The booth was so low that it was tough to get out of after the meal.

Great food and perfect place for Packers games. Best part is we can pull up in the pontoon for lunch and/or drinks in the summer. Also a good spot to stop on the snowmobiles.

We ended up in Chetek unexpectedly on a Friday and decided to have fish. Our mistake was having fish at the Pokegama Lakeside Inn. We both ordered the Perch. The fish was undercooked and I thought it tasted rancid. It’s an experience we won’t soon forget, but will acknowledge that the proprietor gave us half off. She was very kind and apologetic. A week later, we could still taste the fish.

Excellent place to spend a pleasant afternoon in the company of your family or friends, enjoying the view of Pokegama Lake, quality food, delicious Margaritas and the tranquility of living with nature. In addition, you can spend hours playing billiards, arcades, darts, beaker or simply enjoy live music. The attention and kindness of the owners is exceptional.
