The first thing that strikes you here is the noise. It’s extremely loud … the kind of volume where conversation becomes hard work rather than enjoyment. We found ourselves leaning in and repeating things, which meant we were ready to leave as soon as we finished our meal. A lively room is great; feeling like you’re in the middle of a rock concert is not.
Another downside for us was the ordering system. Ordering via QR code simply isn’t our preferred way to dine. Hospitality, at its best, should feel personal … a friendly face taking your order.
Service overall felt a little uneven. It wasn’t poor, just inconsistent and lacking flow.
The food, however, was enjoyable:
Pasta – well cooked and great flavour.
Lamb Ribs – packed with an interesting flavour and really tender.
Burgers – juicy and very tasty.
The kitchen delivered solid, flavourful dishes. With better noise control, more consistent service, and a more traditional ordering option, the experience would feel far more welcoming and relaxed. Don’t need to return!

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Beautiful venue. We sat in the front section closest to Glenferrie Road but there’s a more formal area and an upstairs rooftop. Food is so good. Generous servings when you choose share plates and great service. Lovely friendly staff.

We booked for 6 people upstairs on the terrace. It was a sunny day so the atmosphere was great.
Being upstairs we ordered via a QR code on the table. It was really easy and they had enough staff to ferry the orders out pretty quickly. Both food and drinks were served pretty quickly.
We shared some small plates for entree and then enjoyed mains with some sides.
The food was delicious with good sized serves. We’re definitely coming back soon.

Very popular on a Friday night. Nice atmosphere but tables rather close to each other making it very loud and hard to talk across the table. Price for food is similar to other hotels. Overall a good experience.

We came to Gardiner Hotel to celebrate an engagement.
The function room food (in particular the sticky lamb ribs & crispy mushrooms) were delicious.
Can’t believe the sticky lamb ribs were able to be eaten as finger food!
The meat was so tender and falling off the bone.
The server – Judie – was so friendly, personable and diligent. Ensuring our space was clean and that the freshest hottest food was delivered promptly.

The service is what really lets this place down. We had a large group and sat with plates (we had to stack them ourselves) like this for well over an hour. Food was OK but the gem side salad looked pretty but lacked flavour, no dressing. Lights kept going bright and low which was odd. Down lights in the tables were very intense. Upstairs was loud with really rude staff. Again no table service to clean glasses. See pics. Mt Erica up the road more reliable service for a similar venue.

We recently celebrated a birthday at the Gardiner Hotel and had such a fantastic experience. The venue itself was great, but what really made the night stand out was the service at the bar.
Phoebe and Gareth were absolutely amazing. They were friendly, attentive, and handled a busy crowd with total professionalism and a great attitude. Drinks were made quickly and perfectly, and they kept the energy upbeat the whole night. You can really tell they care about making sure everyone has a good time.
They honestly helped make the birthday celebration extra special. Huge thanks to Phoebe and Gareth – we’ll definitely be back!

The parmigiana was very dry. The prawns in the linguine were pretty much mush. As for my steak, it tasted decent, but it was raw. Not even rare. As in “kissed the grill for 5 seconds” raw. Drinks service was slow, and also messed up my drink order. Didn’t particularly want to come. Won’t be coming back. 2 stars because the chips were nice.
