First time there. Would go back.
My wife had the seafood chimichanga and I had the breaded pork tenderloin with fries. Both were delicious. Hot and fresh.
Our server was attentive and on top of things.
One drawback is that it is a bar that serves food and it was a bit loud.
Great price point.

Used to LOVE so suggested for lunch get together. Place wasn’t busy @ all- less than 12 ppl entire time there. waited a bit b4 asked if needed menus & ordered 2 waters. Finally got menus missing 1 of 2 waters ordered. Sent marg back due to sour/bad taste…got new with flavor syrup on side that tasted like straight tequila while other Mary tasted like 0 tequila in it. Food was not good…Queso tasted like salt Been dumped in it, broasted chicken had no flavor/was dry, cottage cheese was like @ experation date & apps borderline burnt.
Been a bit since last ate there but Guarantee will Never go back

Very poor, slow service. We were going to meet friends. To watch a game. We did get are drinks quickly, but after asking twice for a menu without getting one. Our friend receiving the wrong drink we paid our bill and went to Sammy’s. Its a shame too We keep going back hoping the service will get better, it never does. I used to love this place but the management needs to change.

It been years since I’d been to Papa Juan’s. Used to work there, in the 1990’s.
Loved it.
Everything was exactly as it was, then.
The food, service, and Good Marg, was as Great as it was back then.
❤️

This place could be great if you had staff that actually knew how to run a business. I’m a server/bartender. My family sat without any menus or being greeted for over 5 minutes. We finally had someone come over and take our drink order. We got our drinks after the salsa and chips. We waited again for the server to tell us to give her 5 minutes to take our order because she’s basically the only one working. She should have put our order in before the group. What the hell???? You’re not even that busy!! 2 hours later after ordering chicken strips and 4 tacos and a margarita we were out of there. Lord. Taco Tuesday could actually be a good money maker but you have people there not putting in the effort and don’t care and also people that don’t know how to work and run a business. I could handle all that restaurant and patio.

A great place for well-priced pizza, with a deliciously thin crust and wide variety of toppings. The waiters/waitresses are delightful, the restaurant is very comfortable, and service is amazingly fast. This is a great sit-in restaurant, and perfect for families. I would very much recommend!

On a recent road trip though Iowa, a stop in Cedar Rapids brought me to Papa Juan’s Mexican Grille. There were three restaurants in close proximity to my hotel and all three had Google Reviews. I chose to go to Papa Juan’s because the owner had replied to every review. This told me the place was local and the owner was involved. He was in the restaurant when I showed up on a Friday night, and we ended up chatting for most of my visit.
The first thing I enjoyed was a margarita on the rocks. The flavor was unexpected, bordering more on the sweet side than I was expecting, but it created a great contrast with the salty rim. My next drink was the house special, a margarita made in an aged oak barrel. That was, hands down, the best margarita I have ever had. The oak flavor was unmistakable, clean, sharp, and smooth. The deep golden color of the drink was a fantastic visual. I can see having this drink with a wide variety of food and wished for a nice rare steak as I know the flavor profiles would be a perfect complement.
I chose the lime shrimp street tacos for dinner based on the recommendation of the owner. I was expecting two small tacos in corn shells, but instead got two rather large tacos in grilled flour shells that were stuffed full. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and packed with great lime flavor. The tacos also included a somewhat chunky tomato pico and generous servings of sour cream and guacamole. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the tacos, which were basic in nature but filled with flavor.
The sides I chose were refried beans and asada potatoes. Both were tasty and a good add.
Papa Juan’s is only half of the restaurant. Stefano’s Italian Restaurant is the other half. Had I not been in the mood for a margarita and Mexican, I would have ordered everything on Stefano’s menu. It all sounds that good! I did order dessert from the menu, cannoli which had been made earlier that day. The filling was creamy and absolutely delicious with the exact amount of chocolate chips to add attention, not detract. The shells were soft and chewy, substantial.
The total for my dinner was so low, I actually had to do a double take to be sure they had included everything I ordered. It was a fantastic meal with great service at a great price. I give it two thumbs up, 5 stars, the Best of Cedar Rapids award, all of it.

A sign indicated we should seat ourselves. Menus were difficult to find and silverware was unavailable. It took about five minutes before someone took our order. Chips and salsa were brought out at that time. Drinks were kept full and the staff was friendly. The salsa was excellent and we all enjoyed our entrees.

Papa Juan’s is it what it was 5-10 years ago. Much reduced menu…our waitress really tried…long wait for drinks..food was good..margarita like I remember. Just said to see it go so down hill.

First time there and last. People were getting the wrong food waitress was nice saved our friend from old expired cottage cheese let us know the food quality and portions weren’t like usual because there were two staff left in the kitchen that weren’t ever left on their own without a cook and they had a new cook that didn’t come in. Lots of excuses. The waitress said she would discount my husband breaded tenderloin sandwich because it wasnt what it was supposed to be hard and dry and more bun than meat. But never did. My tacos were terrible and not sure what to call the rice and beans. Even the corn chips were not cooked completely. With so many restaurants available in Cedar Rapids this one was a huge disappointment. Both my husband and I were even sick most of the night. Never again.
