We honestly stumbled upon this wonderful place completely by chance! I love the atmosphere alone!! The food was just absolutely amazing!! The drinks, superb!!! A customer who turned out to be a co-owner offered to move down so we could sit and admire the beautiful bar pieces! He gave us a full history of the bar and fully entertained us until our food arrived!! It was an overall amazing experience through and through!! And a good portion of the menu are authentic Irish family recipes and everything we tried was exquisite!!!

Truly one of the best hidden gems in this area! Our kids beg us to come here and I love that they have so many gluten free options. The atmosphere is unbeatable!

We arrived a few days after the side room library was opened. Amazing atmosphere. Well worth the 10 bording passes issued. (Not issuing the 5 stars to the airlines)
Food: leprecaun legs and bistro sauce hot and delicious! I ordered the Irish Traveller and a cup of the irish stew

We were greeted when we walked in, and the owner actually gave us a tour of the of the place. They have a great menu and full bar. It has a super cool Iris vibe and different places to sit. We will be back. The bartender was awesome too!

A historic masterpiece; the labor of love restoring this place has been for the 30-year owners is obvious. Add to that the authentic Irish menu from the owner’s great-gramdma’s cookbook, including house-made corned beef and Irish banger sausages, and this is definitely a destination stop on the Great River Road. The Irish Old-Fashioned is a must try, too.

This establishment is easily an 11/10 experience. Realistically, closer to a 12 or 13.

As for the ambience, The Monarch feels more “like home” than my own home does. I’ve been coming here for 5+ years and have always been greeted by the friendliest and most gracious staff. All of them treat you like family as soon as you’re through the door. Absolutely beautiful environment that could not possibly be more cozy and welcoming. There have been times where different members of the staff have sat down at the table to engage with us in friendly banter and dialogue before taking our order… in the most genuine way imaginable. Time stands still in this place.

The food and drink could not possibly be better. As far as I know, everything is homemade. The tartar sauce that comes with the fish, is TO DIE FOR. I’m half-tempted to order it as a drink, served with a straw. Same is true for the coleslaw and mashed potatoes.

Absolute best dining experience I’ve ever had. Second to none. I cannot possibly recommend THE MONARCH highly enough.

We had one of the best meals we’ve ever had at the Monarch Public House in Fountain City, WI. It’s the oldest tavern operated under the same name in Wisconsin, est. 1894. They still make the original “Fountain Brew” beer which is definitely worth the visit. We’ll be back again!

Cool spot. I did not care for my pizza. I should have gotten one of the Irish house specials. My mom’s mashed potatoes seemed good.
