Visited from out of state so my first time here. We were craving for Thai food and chose this location. I really wanted to love this place, but I feel I need to leave an honest review. I was surprised by our experience, especially given the strong reviews and my past experiences with Thai food around the country and the world. Unfortunately, this was one of the weaker Thai meals I’ve had.
There was only one auntie running the floor, so service was okay, though not very warm. The interior was also quite plain with minimal décor.
We ordered several dishes. The highlights were the chicken satay, pad kee mao with beef, and pork kratiam prik thai. That said, the pad kee mao was a bit too oily for my taste.
The biggest disappointment was the som tum (green papaya salad), which was extremely salty—surprising, since it’s such a staple Thai dish. Everyone in my family agreed. The tom yum soup was also very spicy; we likely forgot to ask for mild. The flavor was acceptable, but not memorable.
Overall, I was hoping for more based on the reviews, but this visit fell short for us.

I had high expectations from all the reviews…sadly reality did not live up to the hype. I oreder 3 dishes… the steamed spring rolls, pad thai and yum nua. The spring rolls (we call them summer rolls in Hawaii), were not good at all. Big pieces of iceberg lettuce, flavorless shrimp and very little noodles. It came with a peanut sauce that looked a little lumpy and weird. Unfortunately it tasted odd too. It didn’t have deep peanut flavor. It was very mild and blandly sweet. I only ate half and pushed my plate away. Next up the beef salad. This has always been one of my favorite Thai dishes… not here though. The beef was so over cooked and hard, I’ve had jerky that was easier to bite and I’m sure my jerky had more flavor. There were only a few tomatoes, no mint and very few onions. The “dressing” was hot and had no umami factor. No sweet, hot, sour, or savory factor. It was like hot, bland Italian dressing but with no flavor. I also only took a few bites and pushed it away. The pad Thai was the only thing that had the least amount of flavor, although I would give it a 5 out of 10. I did eat most of that. The waitress was very nice. She brought over a take out container and I didnt have the heart to tell her I wasn’t taking it home. Just as I was about done eating my pad Thai a homeless gentleman came in and asked for any leftover food. I told him he could take the summer rolls and/or the beef salad. He took the summer rolls, looked at the peanut sauce and the beef salad and wisely opted out. I wanted so badly to like this place but the food was sad, flavorless and below average.

Beautiful delicious food and lovely service. Gem of a restaurant. I’ve eaten here 3x in the past 3 weeks since moving to Tucson. I love their wonton soup, pork spring rolls and Thom Kai and this is coming from someone who went 21 years not eating pork. Karuna’s makes me feel like I’m back in Asia. Portions are large and prices extremely reasonable. I also love the large windows so it kinda feels like you’re eating outside. Highly recommend!

Decent food portions, but the general atmosphere and service felt dry and bland. Arriving about an hour before closing time, we were met with stares, and since we weren’t given a greeting, we just seated ourselves. One of the staff members came and essentially threw the menus on the table, so our first impression wasn’t great. Another staff member arrived later with a dry greeting and took our order. We chose the classic Pad Thai (requesting peanuts on the side due to a peanut allergy), spring rolls, green curry, and shrimp fried rice. Throughout our visit, the interactions with staff were dry, and not a single “thank you” was given.
When the dishes arrived, the portion sizes were quite generous. We began tasting the many plates we’d ordered. The Pad Thai was solid but nothing special (7/10). The green curry was disappointing as it barely had a green color, appearing instead quite faint, and wasn’t particularly flavorful. The rice and spring rolls were decent enough. The service, however, was by far the biggest negative. Even though nothing terribly wrong happened, the indifferent and dry attitude really made our experience less enjoyable.
At the time of our visit, there was no music or background sound. The restaurant’s extremely bright LED lighting made us feel like we were eating in some sterile, blank hospital room. Although the food was decent enough and the prices average for Thai food, the service and the atmosphere made it a less-than-ideal experience.

Consistently great thai food. This place has been around for a long time because they have been good for a long time. We really enjoyed everything we had to eat, and the service was really attentive and friendly. Parking lot is small, but there is plenty of free parking in the area.

Tried the Green Curry with Tofu, and Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimp. Overall I think it’s mediocre. Not bad but not knocking my socks off. I’ve seen a lot of rave reviews and perhaps I ate here on an off day. As far as the Green Curry dish, the Rice was overcooked, the Tofu was weirdly chewy. Its saving grace was being quite flavorful with well cooked veggies. I didn’t have any issues with the Pineapple Fried Rice. It was tasty and the Shrimp were cooked well. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant, and timely friendly service with a smile. I’d consider another visit to give this place another chance and try other dishes.

Had a very nice lunch here on our first visit. All the food was delicious and seemed authentic. Service was very good. Our table had the Fried Spring Rolls, Pad See Ewe and Gang Massaman.

The best Thai food I’ve had here in Tucson. Better than bai thong also better than Luckies Thai Asian cuisine. Not to put them down but I really enjoyed Karuna’s
Walked in and was greeted immediately. The place is small but the food is amazing. Price is decent. Ordered the Fried spring rolls, which was tasty. Beef pad Thai (spicy) really good and Karuna’s Fried rice was also scrumptious. The Thai tea is sweet and delicious. We will definitely be back. If you have not tried and Karuna’s is on your list GO!

Have tried a few Thai restaurants in Tucson, and this is by far my favorite! I loved everything we ordered. The spring rolls seem homemade and are different (in a good way!) than what you get at other places. The curry is the right amount of thickness, flavor, and the veggies were soft! The drunken noodles were also very yummy. Service was great and friendly. Will come back!

If you want spicy hot food then this is the spot. Try the soup with white rice. Its great. The items inside the soup is good for your body and the price is reasonable.
Try it and you will come back again and again.
I rather go here, a mom and pop store than corporations. The food is perfect! Try the number 49 and the tum yum soup.
