Very historic and cool to visit. We visited on a Friday night in January, had reservations at 6pm, and were seated immediately. Had the beet salad and charcuterie board, both good but could have used more crackers. Fish and chips was a generous portion and very tasty. Strip steak and burger were both reportedly well cooked and delicious. Kids chicken tenders were dry in spots but the French fries and Mac and cheese sides were great. Overall a good value, service at a good pace, and a wonderful evening.

Stopped in for lunch and to enjoy the history. Unfortunately, our waiter disappeared mid meal and never even let us know. The white wine was good and the chicken pot pie was average. The atmosphere was amazing, and we eventually flagged down someone to take over our table. He was very nice and apologize for our person leaving for the day. Someone should really organize that type of thing better because it was a bit ridiculous to just be sitting and waiting forever. Historic place and I’m glad we stopped in, but probably will not go back again.

Wonderful experience at a historic establishment! The place oozes history. There are numerous rooms throughout the building each with their own vibe. We came for Sunday brunch and truly enjoyed it. We had the double bonus of some smooth Christmas jazz played in the main bar area where our table was AND a visit from Santa ! The food and service were amazing. Eggs Benedict shown below. Will definitely be back to visit the small museum and enjoy another meal!

Great food, great whiskey, and zero reservations, literally. This tavern is NYC’s oldest and it ended up being a surprisingly wonderful birthday lunch spot. We walked in with no reservation at peak lunchtime and somehow still got a table for five. We also had no idea it was the anniversary of Evacuation Day (November 25, 1783), when British troops finally left NYC and Washington paraded in and had dinner at there, so we accidentally walked straight into reenactors, demos, and a whole crowd reliving history right outside the door. Inside, the tavern has that historic wood-and-holiday-decor charm without forcing anyone to romanticize colonialism. We sat in the Independence section and ordered from their online menu which is section-specific.

The food was great, especially mine. My Oysters were fresh and sand-free. My Irish Coffee was hot, strong, and blessed with whiskey that could fix anyone’s mood. Then my Chicken Pot Pie was easily the best version I ever tasted. Hubs’ Reuben had great flavor even if the meat was a little chewy. He still finished it, so that says something. Service was friendly and checked in often.

NOTES/TIPS:
**Consider touring the Fraunces Tavern Museum which right next to it. ~$10 fee. Revolution-era artifacts, paintings, documents, and recreations.
**Wheelchair-accessibility is mixed.

We love Fraunces Tavern and visiting is always a treat! The food is great, especially the dry rub chicken wings (the best I have ever had). Our server, Kara was phenomenal and attentive without being intrusive.
The best part of Fraunces Tavern is definitely the atmosphere!! The restaurant has been beautifully maintained in a colonial style. There are multiple, cozy areas to eat as opposed to one big area.
I highly recommend this restaurant to both native New Yorkers and visitors as well!

The experience at the venue was overall very positive, providing a truly authentic American atmosphere. Although reservations didn’t significantly impact seating availability and the wait could be a bit confusing, we truly appreciated the quality of the dishes. It’s worth noting that during the wait, we were seated in an adjacent pub, where we enjoyed the same dishes offered in the restaurant. We savored a delicious clam chowder, flavorful pastrami, and tasty chicken wings. Portions were generous, and overall, the experience was quite enjoyable. Despite a few organizational quirks, the venue offers a genuine immersion into American culture, making it a great choice for those seeking an authent

Fraunces Tavern on Pearl Street is a hidden gem full of history and character. The moment you walk inside, it feels like stepping back in time—the vintage bar, warm lighting, and old-world charm instantly set the mood. The food was incredibly delicious, and one of my favorites was the Mac and Cheese. It had a comforting, warm flavor that felt like a hug in every bite—simple, creamy, and absolutely satisfying. Dining here isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience that blends history, atmosphere, and amazing food. Highly recommended for anyone visiting NYC.

Fantastic place with history and high quality food. Given the historical significance, I thought the food quality may not reach the same level but I was pleasantly surprised! Salmon was cooked to my liking (asked how I would like it cooked like steak) and beer was great! 5 stars on levels!

Great spot to go to for Christmas as it’s cozy and decorated. You’ll want to make a reservation. They have different rooms so you’ll want to call to reserve for the vibe you’re going for (e.g piano bar, cocktail lounge, etc.). We didn’t specify and were seated in the main dining area. Food was delicious and maybe it’s because we were famished but we’re still raving about the warm and soft baguette with butter. We got that, the short rib sliders, the burger, and short rib porter pie—all delicious. For drinks and dessert we got the Irish coffee and Bailey’s cheesecake.

Fraunces Tavern is not just a restaurant; it’s a living testament to American history. Located on Pearl Street in Lower Manhattan, this iconic landmark was once a gathering place for the founding fathers, including George Washington’s farewell to his officers.

Stepping inside feels like entering a time capsule, with charming brickwork and rustic woodwork that evoke the colonial era. During my visit, I enjoyed the Presidential Punch—an intriguing mix of Fort Hamilton Double Barrel Rye, Combier Liqueur d’Orange, Goslings Rum, Angostura Bitters, lemon juice, and organic peach iced tea for $20—while my companion chose a nostalgic Saranack root beer. We shared a standout Scotch Egg, priced at $16, where the perfectly runny yolk is encased in a flavorful blend of three sausages.

As the crowd thinned, we took time to appreciate the tavern’s decor, including the remarkable “Burgis View,” a mural depicting one of the earliest representations of New York City from 1717. The attentive staff made our experience even more enjoyable, and after our meal, we explored the museum upstairs, which offers a wealth of American historical artifacts.

For anyone seeking a blend of culinary delight and historical immersion, Fraunces Tavern is an essential stop. Relish in the past while savoring contemporary flavors in a setting that has witnessed the shaping of a nation.
