Overall good but not great. The staff were friendly and helpful. I got the Rise and Shine and it was very tasty but super salty (maybe the everything bagels were too salty because by daughter said the same about her sandwich). My son found a long hair in his cream cheese which is never pleasant. I didn’t see the people in the back wearing hairnets, so that might be why.

I stop in mostly once a month when I have an appointment in harrisonburg. The bagels are always delicious as is everything ive tried but I noticed today ecspecially how genuinely nice the young woman was at the front. Like the nice that lights up a room. It was such a wonderful change from how most place are nowadays. I didnt get her name but she has a wicked cool hair color and I hope management knows how respectful and honestly I will be back hoping she takes my order again because it changed the whole mood of my day. Also the gentleman who called my name and handed me my food was also super nice and made me feel welcome. Some wonderful employees. I hope they get some recognition. They definitely deserved the tip I left. If you love bagels and nice people this is the place to go.

January 31, 2024 – Did you know there’s a little secret to Mr. J’s Bagels , which has 4 locations ? ( wait until the end, don’t look)
My wife & I were driving through Harrisonburg from Maine, thought we’d stop for a quick brunch NY style bagel . . . Glad we did. Close to I-81 , store #2 , on High Street . No frills, just a nice place to enjoy a good cup of coffee, and a couple of bagels.
Mr. J’s Bagels was founded by Joey & Dave Jerlinski in 1990. Over the last 20 years they opened up 3 locations. A new owner purchased the bagel business, and recently opened up a 4 th location in Elton, VA .
The business seems to be doing well. There’s on-line ordering, catering, featuring breakfast & lunch items at reasonable prices.
*The SECRET *
Mr. J’s Bagels is owned Angela Dean
( ssssh , don’t tell anyone )
* Another little fact, usually New York style bagels are “ KETTLED” which is boiled, then baked. Mr. J’s prefers to skip the boiling, just a matter of texture & luster .

The place itself is great and the food tastes good, but the person taking the orders needs improvement. I’ve been here twice and both times my order was made incorrectly.
First visit: I ordered a turkey cold cut with egg and cheese and a cream cheese bagel. Instead, I was given two turkey sandwiches with cream cheese.
Second visit: I ordered a turkey, egg, and cheese with fried onions, but I received turkey sausage with red onions.
I like the food and the spot overall, but the consistent mistakes make it frustrating. I hope the staff can double-check orders to avoid this in the future.

Mr. J’s Bagel & Deli was really good, no wonder they have three locations. Very happy that they had en egg everything bagel as those are getting harder and harder to find. The real highlights were the bacon and jalapeño cream cheese, the dessert style bagel bites and the bathroom which had a great mirror to snap a selfie in.

I always enjoyed Mr. J’s, but I went in recently and their standards have really dropped. The employees are so unprofessional and quite honestly look like they could use a wash. What ever happened to looking presentable at work and what is with the annoyed, sullen faces. Very unpleasant.

This place has the most delectable bagels and sandwiches! I had the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on an Egg Everything bagel; delicious! I had just stayed the night in Harrisonburg and looked them up for breakfast. The place was hoppin’ with locals at 8AM! I knew I had found someplace special.
