I recently met at Copper Range Depot Family Restaurant for a business conversation involving HouseMaster Serving the Upper Peninsula and a local Realtor working throughout the Houghton–Hancock area. It turned out to be an excellent choice for a productive and comfortable meeting.
We arrived around 10:30 a.m. and opted for breakfast, as the lunch menu begins after 11:00. The breakfast menu offered plenty of solid options, and everything we ordered was well prepared and enjoyable.
The environment was relatively quiet, which made it easy to have meaningful conversation without distractions—something that matters when you are discussing professional services, communication, and potential collaboration opportunities.
Our server, Janae, was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful without ever being pushy or intrusive. Service timing was well paced, and we never felt rushed or forgotten.
Overall, this was a very positive experience. Good food, a comfortable atmosphere, and excellent service made it an ideal spot for both casual meals and business discussions. I would absolutely recommend Copper Range Depot Family Restaurant and will be returning again.

We had a nice dinner as a family of six. 2 adults 4 kids. All the food was delicious! Service was great! Seemed slow for a Saturday evening, wasn’t very busy which was actually nice.

After waiting an hour for food it showed up and was so covered in cooking grease it was not edible. This is an omelette with no cheese in it. This is supposed to be fluffy and dry. I didn’t want to get sick so I just didn’t eat after the hour wait. I will say if you like the greasy breakfast and I know many people do, this place will be good. Think Denny’s. If you love Denny’s food you will be very happy here. On the other good side the younger blonde waitress was very kind and handled it with great customer care. So 5 stars for her.

The food here was wonderful. We stopped for breakfast before going on a snowmobile trip in the UP. Portions were large and the choices were very diverse. It was my first time having an omelette with pimento cheese it was very delicious. I would like to return to try some of their lunch options as well. The descriptions on the menu read everything sound very good and based on quality of the breakfast I can imagine that lunch is very high quality as well. The location is great right along Portage Lake and very close to the Portage Lake lift bridge. There’s plenty of parking out front which is convenient because sometimes finding parking in Houghton can be difficult. I found it interesting to read the history of the building while we were waiting for food to show up. They had details of the construction and prior uses of the depot as a train station before it said idle and was converted into a restaurant along with residential spaces. It would be a really neat place to do a short-term rental if you were spending time in houghton.

So this place is not on the main drag, but it looked so cool we just had to try it. And what a gem! The food was great! Good portions and fair price. Nice prompt service. And the building, nostalgia, history, artifacts and pictures throughout…just so cool for the Copper Country! I walked around the restaurant with my teenagers, yes teenagers, and they were really interested in the history. Railroads, copper, freighters
On top of this, my entire family enjoyed their food, great fries!! I had the morning train burger with a breakfast gravy on it, impressive! Check this place out! You won’t be disappointed, plus it has a great view!

I took mom here for the first time. It’s a very unique restaurant in the heart of Houghton. The food was excellent, but the service was a bit rocky. On our arrival, we had to wait for a bit to be seated. We didn’t see our wait staff right away. The table next to us was seated after us, but got their order taken first. In the end, our superhero waitstaff made it work. She brought out 3 tables of food at the same time, like Wonder Woman.

We had a large party for dinner, and I gave up say that the best thing about our visit was the waitress- she stated it was her second day. She was very attentive and friendly. Our food was very hit or miss. Truffle fries were great but the Nashville hot chicken sandwich was kind of gross. The chicken was super rubbery. The pasta dishes were really good. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable given the portion sizes too. My in laws said that this place is always hit or miss.
