Buttermilk Pie at Yesterday Cafe – Seeing Southern

If it’s good enough for Carrie Underwood, it’s more than good enough for me. Yesterday’s Cafe in Greensboro, Ga.

This was a very quiet restaurant with beautiful décor. The food was excellent—especially the Brussels sprouts and buttermilk pie. Our waitress was great. She was very efficient and personable. The price was reasonable for a hearty Southern meal.

This restaurant is one of my favorites. Friendly service, excellent food every time I stop by, and just an overall nice ambiance. They were always VERY kind to my elderly grandmother during the last years of her life, and very patient with her needs. They have a big restroom which is very nice. Last time I checked (around 2024), they had free wi-fi, and it worked great. The last meal I got there was takeout, their chicken strips dinner which is my favorite, very tender chicken strips and great honey mustard sauce. I adore their squash casserole and it isn’t over-salted so it’s great for my low sodium diet. Their unsweet tea is some of the best in town if you like unsweet tea. I’ve enjoyed this restaurant since around 2012 or so. Many thanks!

The all raved about Buttermilk pie was great! It definitely is for someone with a sweet tooth though. But whoever makes these pies has it down to a science. They are light, creamy, and the crust is very flaky. This pie that is not always easy to nail, and they nail it! The other food looks great and smells good as it passes. And everyone looked glad to be there. This beloved place will be a “must stop by” in this small town!

The server and hostess were nice, I enjoyed the hamburger steak and squash casserole. The corn bread was nice, but to me just average. I liked the buttermilk pie.

I only gave a four because after the food was dropped off it was hard to get the waitress back. We needed some butter, a different waitress got us some.

Great food and lunch specials. I had the roast beef that was so tender and amazing. Servers do a great job and the atmosphere in the small town of Greensboro is just great. Definitely recommend stopping in and don’t forget to order dessert.

Stopped here on our way to Savannah today. Atmosphere was awesome! Service and food was even better! You’ll spend $10-$15 on average per person, and the food is so worth it! Will definitely go here again if driving by. Also, the buttermilk pie was amazing!!

Back again, review after this is from a year ago
Another great lunch with family. We had a knife and fork open face beef sandwich, tuna melt and a BLC sandwich….all great. Service was spectacular and friendly and the play list for background music is right up my ally. Always a great experiance.

From 11/2018. Second time we have been here. This time with out of town friends. We wanted to give them the local feeling. Overall service and atmosphere were great for our lunch. Great ice tea and deserts(buttermilk pie and chocolate walnut pie)..although a little expensive. Fish Po-boy, Chicken melt and Tuna melt were outstanding, Caribbean chicken not so much. Fun place to share the real home town feeling of Greensboro.

I came in to try this as I just came back into town and saw that it re-opened. I was hoping for a nice quick lunch with my family at this small town restaurant which was not the case. our server veronica was very rude and wasn’t attentive what so ever to us. Our drinks sat empty and when i waved her over after waiting a few minutes she rolled her eyes and walked to the back. Another sweet waitress brought our food out and we were missing our ranch and i tried to find her but she was no where to be seen for at least 10 minutes which i find crazy as i would check on my customers after their food came out to make sure evening was okay. I should have given her tip to the other server who brought our food out. Next time i will definitely request another server besides her if we even come back. She ruined the experience for us.

My family and I were at Lake Oconee/Greensboro area for 5 nights and tried number of local restaurants. My rating is based on the restaurants we tried in the area. Follow me to see my other reviews.

This was the one restaurant in the area that we wanted to try from everything that I read about. We felt it was a bit over hyped. Fried green tomatoes was the best thing we got, though the tomatoes were not “green” enough. Blackened pork chop was a bit dry. Country fried steak was salty. Grill chicken is good but very small portion. Fried basa (fish) is good and good sized portion. Finished off sharing the famous buttermilk pie. While it is warm, we could tell it was microwave as some spots was still cold. It was really sweet for our taste.

Clean restaurant in Downtown. The service was great. Love the jalapeno poppers! The house salad is a bowl of romaine lettuce, 1/4 of a tomato and a couple onions. The shrimp and fries were good. The filet I ordered was cooked perfect but it had no taste, I think they forgot to season it. I’m not a fan of buttermilk pie but it was pretty good.
