We went there for a dinner. We ordered chicken malai cilantro along with drinks – Hari Pari and Paan Chicagowala. Both drinks were amazing and different from usual drinks and it was nicely flavorful and starter was great. One change I would suggest is to give atleast 5-6 pieces. 3 is way too small and the crème is really tasty, tangy and awesome to just eat 3 pieces

We order garlic naan and chicken basant and naan was really nicely made and chicken was tender, nicely spiced and awesome. Overall great experience.

Izzy was our server and she was awesome and was really serving well and responding with smile

The food was amazing! We had the malai kofta, the fish basant and the chicken tikka and a great garlic naan. Everything was nicely presented and full of flavor. We will definitely come back!

Basant Modern Indian has quickly become one of our most frequently visited restaurants in Chicago, and we can’t believe it took us this long to write our first review. From the moment you walk in, the space feels warm, stylish, and thoughtfully designed—an inviting backdrop for what is consistently an exceptional dining experience.

The food is where Basant truly shines. Each dish strikes a perfect balance between honoring classic Indian flavors and presenting them in a modern, refined way. The menu is creative without being intimidating, and everything we’ve tried has been beautifully plated and deeply flavorful. You can tell there’s real care behind each dish—from the quality of ingredients to the layering of spices and textures. It’s the kind of food that makes you pause after the first bite and say, wow.

The service is equally impressive: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling overbearing. Whether it’s a casual weeknight dinner or a special occasion, Basant delivers a consistently memorable experience. It’s rare to find a restaurant that checks every box—ambience, food, service, and consistency—but Basant does exactly that. We’ll happily keep coming back and recommending it to anyone looking for outstanding modern Indian cuisine in Chicago.

Basant Modern Indian Restaurant blends traditional Indian flavors with a more polished, contemporary feel. The butter chicken is rich and creamy with deep spice, and the naan comes out warm and perfectly soft for scooping up every bite. The presentation feels elevated without losing that comforting, home-style taste. The space itself is stylish and inviting, making it a great option for both casual dinners and special nights out. It’s flavorful, refined, and a refreshing take on classic Indian cuisine in Chicago.

Fantastic meal, great variety of food and all the meats were cooked very well – the chicken Basant and duck Basant were the stars of the show for me, the the tandoori meats were good but could have come with onions and been a little more charred. The chutney was elite though.

Big fan of the Milai cilantro, creamy and rich and with chicken it would be even better.

The naan was good, it could have been a bit more buttery.

The gulab jamun cheesecake tasted a bit more like a basque cheesecake – very good but little reminder of gulab jamun.

I liked the ambiance here a lot – very lowkey, but nicely presented. I would come back here again.

4.5 ⭐️ Dinner at the bar without reservations, had 2 items on the HH menu, Chicken Malai Cilantro was my favorite and Saag with Chicken main, a bit too spicy for me. Modern atmosphere, accessible restrooms. Server was very professional and polite, several staff members behind the bar, service was good but had to wave for attention a couple times and when paying the bill noticed HH food and drink pricing wasn’t passed on.

Wanted to tried this restaurant from a while back, I tried this restaurant with my husband over dinner. I feel the food is more Americanised. We started off with Khule Aam, Azadi Time pass for drinks and for appies we had Jackfruit Cutlets and Chicken Malai Cilantro. The food was decent in taste. For main course we had Saag Paneer and Chicken Basant again the food was just average in taste and we felt that the chicken was cooked separately and then mixed with the sauce. I feel in terms of taste of food this place is little overhyped or may be I was hoping for more authenticity in terms of flavours.

The ambiance was amazing and the service was fabulous.

I would say try this place and see it for yourself!

Went to Basant during Chicago restaurant week for the prix fixe dinner and everything we sampled was wonderful! The salmon was perfectly cooked with nice crispy sun and a delicious sauce. Service was great and the restaurant is lovely! Great experience all around.
