For the main we had beef ramen and omurice, the rice was flavorful and the chicken was very tender and juicy. The beef ramen wasn’t our favorite, the beef was very challenging to chew and the flavor was lacking in the noodles as well. That dish also too the longest to come so I don’t know if they hurried it up because we were waiting so long on it.
The banana tempura was ok, not much to say about that.
Service gets 4 stars because of lack of knowledge of their menu items. When questioned they had to query and then answer but I personally feel they should have know the answer to “what is omurice and what is banana tempura?”
Loved the atmosphere, cozy with great decor and the drinks were good I’d recommend the macha iced tea.
Here’s how the experience on my last visit went: Me and friend booked a reservation last year end and upon our arrival, we were told to sit anywhere. We ordered the rolls, matcha tiramisu and dumplings.
Rolls: 5/10
Dumplings: 7/10
Matcha Tiramisu: 2/10 because it was served hot??? Tiramisu shouldn’t be served hot!
For my second visit which was this month: I went there with my partner but we just did a walk in and were also told to sit anywhere but when we choose the seat we wanted, a lady in a very short dress came running over asking if we have a reservation and to sit somewhere else (there was no reservation label on the table we originally wanted btw), so we just moved somewhere else.
Here’s the food rating:
Beef and chicken Gyoza (ordered by my bf): 10000/10
Milk soda: 10/10- honestly my favourite thing
Omnu stir fried ramen: 5/10- the omnu egg was just a plain fried slightly fluffy egg with sauces on top, the ramen had too much soy sauce and one of chicken pieces tasted and smelt raw like it wasn’t washed before cooking but the other one tasted fine. The sauces on the egg and the few bell peppers in the ramen carried this dish for me.
Chocolate lava cake: 2/10- it was NOT a lava cake and took a while to arrive, when it came to us, a mixture was poured over it which was strange. As we took our first bite, we kept chomping down on large sugary crystals only to immediately realize that the mixture poured over the cake was MILO and ofc course inside of the cake had no chocolate pouring out like it’s supposed to be, we immediately got turned off and had to stop eating, leaving back half of the chocolate “lava” cake.
When it came to the bill, my bf told the waitress to keep the change and he planned to give her more cash when she returned for the plates, but she still came and placed the bill down with the change (turns out that’s a sign of disrespect in the food service industry because for certain servers, i.e if the change is less than $1000, they would just give the money back). Once he saw this, we got up and left leaving the change right there. Idk if Yugo just doesn’t let their servers accept tips but that part was strange.
The peeve I have with here that happened both times I went is that this is supposed to be a Japanese anime themed restaurant yet they never actually play anime music despite having it displayed on the TV screen, you can easily turn your head towards the bar area and see the tablet they use to play other types of music. Yugo needs to decide who they’re trying to appeal to because it doesn’t actually seem to be anime fans anymore. There was 3 different openings for great changes to be made but so far I’ve just seen a change in staff.
My friends and I ordered the Sensei wings (appetizer), chicken ramen (katsu and cha siu) and the beef ramen.
Sensei wings:
Taste: 9/10 – sweet chilli, ginger sauce
Heat: 4.5/10 – it tickled my tongue.
Breading: 10/10 – super crunchy
Texture: 9/10 – firm and juicy
Portion:10/10 – 7 (pterodactyl) wings
Price: 10/10 – $3000 – meant to be shared!
Chicken broth with chicken katsu:
Heat: 5.5/10 – meant for people with spice tolerance
Breading: 10/10 – same as the chicken wings
Texture of chicken katsu: 10/10 – juicy yet firm
Price: 10/10: for the portion size, it’s definitely worth it
Noodle texture: 4/10 – a little overcooked for me. I prefer it a little firmer.
Egg: 7/10 – texture was good but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. May need to work on the ratio of spices.
Only recommendation is to ask the hostess which toppings are available up front.
Overall: 8/10 would recommend.
Meal type: …
The menu offered a delightful variety of authentic Japanese dishes, each meticulously prepared with fresh ingredients and exquisite presentation. I had the pleasure of trying their chicken Ramen, and I must say, it exceeded all expectations.
