Very good dim sum! Took the family here out of recommendation from a co-worker. Great hostess, super friendly. Small interior but packed with people. Busy environment so servers are walking around trying to drop off the right dish. They have a great selection if you don’t eat meat. Everything we got except one dish was vegetarian.

Hot food and hot tea esp vital to survive in this frigid weather; tasty dim sum like har gau still having steam and hot from the kitchen to the table is never to be missed; clean environment and very polite services; last but not least, prices are not marked up and are very affordable! A must-try for every resident in Rochester Hills. It’s in our neighbourhood!

This is the best dim sum place in metro Detroit. We drive 45 minutes from Novi to eat here, even though Shangri-La is only 15 minutes away. Unfortunately, Shangri-La has gone downhill over the years — the food quality and value have dropped so much that it’s no longer an option.

Cheng’s, on the other hand, is far superior in both taste and value. It’s also accompanied by the classic Guangdong service style — where servers drop your food on the table without a word, don’t bother announcing what the dish is, and seem to have permanently banned “thank you” and “you’re welcome” from their vocabulary. Authentic to the core, for better or worse.

I just wish there were more places like this closer by. For now, it’s absolutely worth the drive and the time.

Today we had dimsum at Cheng’s and I had the best spring roll I’ve ever had in my entire life. Delicious creamed corn and chicken soup. Fabulous fried shrimp and shrimp in bean curd skin. I cannot speak highly enough about the food here. Everything was so flavorful. I’m already plotting my return visit. Absolutely get the fried squid. The topping of onions and peppers took me places. I am so pleased with my experience. I didn’t expect it to be so good I had to write about it so my pictures suck, but they came adequate display the level of YUM.

I’ve travelled the world from Hong Kong to Bangkok and many places in between sampling various Chinese foods…heck I even had it dab snack in the middle of Baghdad, a couple miles away from one of Sadam Hussein’s palaces during an international conflict.

Cheng’s is in my top 5 Chinese restaurants from the Metro Detroit area. Don’t expect Panda Express. IMHO it’s much closer to mainland China style, but its more transitional and easier for the western taste buds. A good indicator of authenticity is the percentage of patrons of Chinese heritage…note its higher here.

You’ll find an array of dishes from Dim Sum style to more traditional Mao Po Tofu. I find the menu to offer a wide range. I’m sure you can find something tasty.

Service is on par with many traditional restaurants. To me it runs leaner than most and has longer wait times.

For over 10 years they’ve continued to delivery great eats. I think it’s certainly worth a try.

This was our first time visiting, and it was on Christmas Day, so we tried to give some grace. Unfortunately, the service and communication made for a poor first impression, and there is not a reasonable defense for it.
When we arrived, there were plenty of open tables that could have accommodated our group of five, but we were told we had to sit in a booth that felt cramped. If those tables were reserved, that is fine, but no one explained that to us. The lack of basic communication continued immediately. The posted opening time was 11:00 AM, yet when we arrived around 10:40 AM, multiple parties were already seated and already being served food. That created confusion and made it feel like the rules only applied to certain customers.
Once seated, there was also no guidance on how ordering works. Not everyone is experienced with dim sum service, and if we were completely new to the process, this would have been a frustrating experience. The staff seemed to assume we already knew what to do, which came across as dismissive and unwelcoming. A restaurant does not have to provide a tutorial, but basic customer service and clear direction are not optional, especially for first time guests.
While waiting, we also noticed multiple delivery drivers being ignored for long stretches. Some waited 10 to 20 minutes just to get assistance. On top of that, it appeared that guests who could speak Mandarin or Cantonese were seated ahead of English speaking guests. Whether intentional or not, it reinforced the feeling that the restaurant prioritizes established regulars and does not care to create a welcoming experience for newcomers.
To be clear, being busy, being popular, or having an established clientele is not an excuse for poor customer service. A lack of communication and basic courtesy does not justify the business. It undermines it. If the service is consistently this indifferent, people will eventually take their money elsewhere.
To be fair, the food itself was good. It was well cooked, not overly salted, and not overly Americanized. But good food does not make up for subpar dine in service. Would I come back. Possibly, but only for takeout, not for dining in. After reading other reviews, it also sounds like this is normal and not just a holiday issue, which makes it even more disappointing.

Very good american and authentic Chinese food. Everything we had was very good, we found our new local spot. The beef with wide rice noodles in soy sauce is so good, must have. Everything on the dim sum menu we ordered was super good.

We enjoyed the dim sums here. The restaurant is quite small, nothing fancy about it but the food is good. We were surprised how empty it was when we arrived for dim sums during the weekdays. The dim sums were hot and fresh, better than some of the other local restaurants. Prices are not cheap. Service is decent not self initiative, you asked you received type of service, but friendly though.

Looking for Dim sum and according to Yelp, this is one of the best to have dim sum in Metro Detroit. They are pretty good for the most part. Dumpings are full of shrimp and meat. The buns are good, good amount stuffing.
腸粉rice noddle roll has no meat in it, it was all noddle. Anything that has to roll wasnt up to the standard. Overall it is a good place to eat dim sum and Chinese food but be careful what you order.
Also it is in Rochester Hill so quite a bit of a drive depends on where you live.
