Honestly, worth every bit of the hype and more. Great pork sandwiches, and the price is even better. The meat is perfectly tender, has just a bit of that signature porky flavor that would want from a sandwich like this. They have some hot oil and something that looked like mustard, both are very good on it. The spicy oil is not mild, so if you don’t like spicy food I’d recommend just putting a little bit on.

I tried both the regular and the one with cheese, I liked both a lot, can’t decide which is better. The cheese hides the pork flavor a bit which can be a positive or negative thing depending on how much you like pork. It is two whole euros extra so it’s kind of a hefty upcharge but it is very good quality cheese, and at 3 euros for the normal and 5 euros for the one with cheese, both are still phenomenal deals.

Really the only downside is there is usually a pretty long line but it moves quickly and it’s to be expected given the quality and incredible value of the food. Just be careful of the cars that turn into the street!

Worth the queue but be aware you may be waiting 30-40 minutes.

Enjoyed the classic bifana option, white wine flavour comes through nicely and the roll is the right balance between crusty and soft to absorb the flavour. Add some mustard and chilli oil if you fancy.

Affordable, tasty, good place to try a bifana while in Lisbon!

The bifana is super tasty, maybe even better without the cheese.
The service was super quick; however, the fact that they only accept cash can be disappointing. Imagine taking a taxi there on our last day and realizing we couldn’t pay. It’s true there’s an ATM just across the street, but we didn’t have a physical card with us. Luckily, an Italian couple was kind enough to help us, and we managed to sort it out.

Take away and you will likely be eating this outdoor. There are now two locations; the original in the fringe of Alfama and a second location on a side lane immediately off the pedestrian street, Rua do Augusta.

Very delicious pork sandwich and great value at €3.50 for the basic Bifana. Definitely a must try a MUST for visitors to Lisbon.

We stayed at a line of 40 people or so, but it takes about 5 minutes. Watch out for the ending hours, today a guy at 17.45 stopped people to line up. The sandwich was very good, pork meat was tender, the bun was thin. Watch out for the chili oil because is hot! Also the meat was hot but we manage to eat them.

I bought a bifana (€3.5) at around 4:30pm on 25 February 2026. The pork was well-seasoned, but it was too lean for me. The bread was also kind of chewy and difficult to bite for me. Nevertheless it was very cheap. Please note that this shop does not accept card. It is located a bit uphill from the shore but it was not a difficult climb.

Traditional and famous bifana shop. They mainly do bifanas (spicy pork sandwich), thats it, but they do them so well. Buy one with or without cheese (I like them with cheese) add mustard and chili oil enjoy with a cold beer- you are now enjoying a true tase of Lisbon.

Cash only place

The bifanas here are very tasty! They’re more flavorful and you can really taste the wine and spices. The pork is less tender than other places but it’s still very good. The bread can be a bit too floury.
There can be a huge line-up so if you see a short line-up, goooo.

The Patanisca de Bacalhau (fish fillet sandwich) is a cold fish fillet sandwich which is a bit odd, but the fish is tasty. I wouldn’t say get that unless you really wanted to try it.

This place also has Super Bock on tap! You can get a big or small size, and the small size is perfect for me for a lunch drink.

Be sure to give this place a try if you’re getting bifanas!

Small takeout place for a Portuguese specialty, the Bifansa (stewed pork sandwich). Only 3 euros for the regular sandwich or 5 with cheese. Great portion size and definitely fantastic value at this price point. Highly recommend for a quick bite to eat. You can also add some chili oil and mustard.

The bun was nice and soft too. Would definitely get it again!

Definitely worth the hike up the hill to try. It is possibly the most affordable food you can get in Lisbon and arguably one of the best as well
There are benches right outside the place where you can rest while enjoying the sandwich
Its cash only so come prepared
You can also find the same bifanas near rua augusta, without the need to hike
