Modern on the Rails is a solid dinner spot. It’s a great location and the ambiance/decor is a total vibe. It’s definitely got an upscale feel, while also not being stuffy or fancy. You could easily go here for dinner in jeans and not feel out of place, but also if you wanted to dress up for a date night or special occasion, it would also be appropriate.

The space is also really nice and is a good option if you were having a larger group or wanted to do a celebratory meal.

The staff is friendly and attentive.

The food is solid and the price is reasonable for what you are getting. They brought over bread to start and the bread was nice and warm. We started with the burrata app which weirdly came with 3 pieces of medium bread (same as the basket, but toasted or grilled). It felt like it should have been smaller crostini type bread and also more pieces given the app, but it didn’t matter because we had the warm bread basket. The app itself was nice, but not overly special.

For dinner we had the burger and the squid ink pasta with salmon. The burger was good, but the sweet potato fries needed any kind of seasoning, even salt. The pasta was the best dish of the night. The salmon was cooked perfectly, the sauce was delicious and the pasta was great.

Overall, I would definitely come back here again. It’s a nice spot with reasonable prices, great ambiance and service, and the food is solid.

Modern on the Rails was amazing in every way. Not sure why they picked the name “Modern on the Rails”… yes, they are on the railroad tracks, but the inside is beautiful and mostly original. The woodwork is beautiful. If you appreciate architecture and original structures you will really appreciate this place.
The food was fantastic, and surprisingly large portions. Kootoos to the chef and kitchen staff.
Service was good, and so were the drinks.

We were able to snag a table for two at the last minute with the help of a very accommodating hostess. We spent 10 minutes waiting at the bar, where the bartender was quick, efficient and friendly. Our table was a cozy (not cramped) corner booth for two and the seating was very comfy. Laraine was our sever and she was great. Attentive without intruding. Quick without being frantic. Excellent excellent service. The food was delicious and served hot. There is nothing that we would change about our visit except we should have tried this restaurant sooner!

What’s Good Here? Oh Man—That Pork Chop!
Modern on the Rails in Mamaroneck delivers, but what’s good here? It’s the Hatfield Reserve Pork Chop. Full stop.

Thick-cut and seared to perfection. Juicy like it’s got something to prove. Smothered in a bold, rich sauce with just the right heat—hot, sweet, or mixed (go mixed!). The sausage adds depth, the peppers and onions bring the fire, and the mushrooms and potatoes round it all out like a Sunday meal at Nonna’s, only sharper and bolder!
It’s not just dinner—it’s an experience. Money well spent, and then some. Come hungry. Leave talking about it for days.

What’s good here? The Hatfield Reserve Pork Chop, no question. -WGH

Went for brunch with friends and the overall vibe of the place is very quaint and old school since it’s in the old train station. Definitely paying for the ambiance.

However the food was good but not many options. I thought there would be an omelet station or meat station or even a toaster to toast the bagels but didn’t have any of that.

The bagels were very small, only 1 pasta option, no crackers for cheese and the pizza they had was good but only had meat on the pizza each time.

Homefries potatoes were yummy but I expected more options.

They do have an upgrade for unlimited mimosas and other brunch drinks.

Maybe I’ll try it again for dinner since it seems to have better reviews for that

the ambiance was great but the service was slow. The restaurant was practically empty when we got there towards the end is when it got busy. My main entrée which was the lobster and steak was honestly very mid and I expected more for a restaurant that’s priced at the way they are. The drink and the appetizer is the best thing.

We hosted my baby shower here and could not have asked for a better experience! From start to finish, the service was absolutely outstanding. Our server Kristina went above and beyond—she made sure not a single drink was ever empty and cleared plates so quickly that nothing ever sat for long. The staff as a whole was incredibly attentive, accommodating, and kind, making the entire event smooth and stress-free. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was perfect, and everything exceeded our expectations. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough for hosting a special occasion!

AWFUL FOOD AND SERVICE! We have no idea how people rave about this place. Apps were so small and meh. Only one of four of us liked our entrees. Our waiter was never to be found when we needed something. Took like ten minutes to request the check once we decided that the experience there was just a waste of time and money. Nothing like original Modern.

My son and daughter-in-law had their wedding at Modern on the Rails in January! The ambience was beautiful and romantic and so quaint… What a phenomenal event!
The food was extremely well prepared and presented. The wait staff could not do enough to serve you, and were extremely attentive..
All of our relatives and friends in attendance raved about what an exceptional wedding venue it was, and a wonderful time was had by all. We are so grateful to the manager, Lori for her hard work and dedication..
Yes, it was our family’s wedding, but it really was a wedding to remember.
