At our Sumter, SC location, we are part of a historic seafood tradition. Captain D’s Seafood Restaurant first opened its doors back on August 15, 1969. A lot has changed since then, but our commitment to serving freshly prepared seafood at a great value has been our core mission from the beginning. Known originally as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers, Captain D’s was opened in Donelson, Tennessee. From the very start, we set out to provide quality seafood at reasonable prices, a concept that was revolutionary at the time.

I only gave the food 3 stars because twice I have gone to the drive thru and ordered fish. The fish was not fresh. It had been premade and set under the heating lamps. I know this because of how quickly they “made” my order and because of how the fish looked and tasted. Next time I will have to insist that I wait for freshly cooked fish. The jalapeno poppers are the bomb though.

This place just needs to go ahead and close. I’d give it 0 stars if I cld. The only car at the drive thru and we sat there for all of 10 min just to receive cold food. The corn looks nibbled on already. And these hush puppies need to be used as weapons!! Called the store just to be told to bring it back for hot food!! Huh?! On who’s gas? Comp me the next visit, simple. Bring back what?! So you can throw it out and cook me fresh food? At least my cats and dog enjoyed it!!

My only complaint is the drove thru speaker is hard to hear when someone is speaking. The food and service is always good. Food is fresh and hot and the staff are all so nice!

Captain D’s is a seafood restaurant located on S Pike next to Shoney’s is friendly, clean, and respectable staff and atmosphere. The food is not 5-star quality but palpable. To its credit, CD’s gives veterans’ and senior discounts! I ordered the Fish and Shrimp Dinner with broccoli and corn on the cob for my sides. The food was brought to the table, hot and fresh. Go! (and don’t forget to leave a tip)!

Update: I came back and saw the store had replied to me; that was nice. I didn’t leave detail, but I just scrolled through some of the other reviews.. I’m not sure who was working on those days but I’ve been to this location plenty of times since I moved down here. In general, Captain D’s is my favorite fast food of all time, and I’m not from Sumter, so I don’t play about my Captain D’s.
Just here to say, EVERYTIME I went the food and service was GREAT. I’m just saying.. don’t be afraid to give them a try when you pass through, I went a couple of times in the day one was dine-in (restroom needs a good update, in due time❤️), but everything else was spot on and tidy. I also visited couple of times in the evening as well (drive-thru). I had a long wait at night due to short staffing, but the wait was for fresh food! Well worth it, and the person who served me had such a sweet and lovely personality, bless her she made sure everything was right. I am glad I didn’t read these reviews first because I wouldn’t have had the amazing experiences that I had so far. Goodness! Maybe I was just blessed 🙂 (hang in there staff and management ❤️ better days coming).

Captain Ds is making a pretty decent comeback. My husband and I used to order & eat the fish & fries, & after we ate, we felt as though our mouths were grease buckets, but lately, the food has been light and crisp. With the exception of the re-dropped french fries – Garners Ferry Rd. However, mostly, the food is cooked appropriately, and the taste aligns with a Seafood FAST Food Restaurant. Lately, the fish portion is pretty good. The food fills your belly. Tea (unsweetened) is fresh.

This Captain D’s is honestly pretty average. The food is always hot and it tastes like it does at every other Captain D’s you’ve ever been to.
The service is good, but not overall above average. The dining area always looks clean. I always order takeout which works about as well as expected. Overall you pretty much know what you’re getting before you ever stop here and that can be good sometimes. Overall 4 Stars.
