Let me start with the positives: the ambience was genuinely impressive, easily better than 90% of restaurants in Southern Maryland. I loved the wood paneling, large windows, cozy booths, and even the covered benches outside. Compared other restaurants like IHOP and Boomerangs (my absolute favorite in the area) the interior here is more homey and inviting.
Unfortunately, the biggest issue was the service. No one was rude, but it felt like the staff was simply going through the motions. There was very little energy or attentiveness. We ordered scrambled eggs with home fries on one dish and sunny-side-up eggs with hash browns on the other, and both plates came out with scrambled eggs and hash browns. We had also asked for the French toast and pancakes to be served about 15 minutes after the breakfast entrées, but everything arrived at the same time. When we pointed it out, we were told the only solution was to leave them under the heat lamp and bring them back out later.
The server checked on us several times, yet somehow didn’t notice that most of our requests were missed. The male server working the section next to us seemed similar: polite, but low energy and disengaged.
As for the food, it was okay at best. We ordered The Hog (all meats, egg, French toast, and pancakes) and The Big Wrangler (sausage gravy and biscuits with eggs and cheese). The bacon was easily the standout, crispy, flavorful, and not sliced paper-thin. The ham was decent, and the sausage links and patties were average. The hash browns, however, were disappointing, tasting like the cheapest factory-produced version, barely crisped and poorly seasoned, same quality at Waffle House.
At checkout, we were asked how the experience was, but when we offered feedback, it felt glossed over. The cashier refilled our orange juice, which was appreciated, but didn’t actually engage with the comments. It made the question feel more obligatory than genuine.
It was unfortunate because the prices are reasonable, and the atmosphere truly stood out. With more attentive service and a bit more care in the kitchen, this location could easily be a local favorite. Best ones are still Boomerang’s, Bulrushes, and IHOP.
Came back on March 1, 2026 and brought the kids again. Alex was our server and we all were just thrilled with the service he provided this demanding bunch. Special thanks to him
Delicious again as always. Our server was very efficient an wonderful personality. We had 8 people an she got everyone’s order correct an she was fast an also came back to check on us several times to make sure everything was good an if we needed refills. We will return next time we’re in MD an it will be the same Bob Evans!!! Never had a bad time here and food was always very good!
