Service was good. I think I would have liked it a little more if my bread was not so soggy and meat a little seasoned. But they do give you a lot a whole sub was about $34 plus tip but good experience one staff was really engaging and made the experience fun. The one in the picture

They have the best cheesesteaks in Philly in my opinion. I only come once or twice a year though because I don’t like the way that the staff interacts with customers so that’s the only reason why I give three stars instead of five. Anytime I’ve come here they are not friendly with anyone that I have witnessed. I would come here more if they didn’t act like they lowkey hate customers. It’s a very strange environment considering the customers are what keep them open. The cheesesteaks are great so that’s why I come at least once a year and I just try my best to ignore their attitude and get on with my day.

I went to Max’s on September 25, 2025 and ordered a Cheesesteak with spicy peppers, no onions, lettuce with American cheese and salt & pepper.

I never tasted it at all. The guy who took my order seemed like he was a little frustrated. I’m from New York living in a home for Veterans in NJ. I drove from NJ all the way to Philly for this Cheesesteak from Max’s because everyone swore that is was the best.

I didn’t eat it because it was full of mushrooms. The order before mine ordered one with mushrooms and they mixed some of theirs with mine.
I didn’t find this out until I got back to NJ and was getting ready to eat. I was going to add some salt and pepper and when I opened it I saw a mushroom and the more I looked the more mushrooms I found. I found mushrooms in 3/4 of the sandwich at this point I was just completely frustrated and disappointed. I threw the sandwich out.

I thought the price was ok for what it was but it was a complete waste of money on gas and food.

I was so excited about having a great Cheesesteak and instead I ended up having a horrible experience which left me starving and upset.

As you can see from the picture I was still picking mushrooms put of my Cheesesteak. I was just disappointed, I was really looking forward to this.

I didn’t try to contact them because I said it wouldn’t make a difference.

As a 30+ year customer, Im done. Wednesday 12/17 went like this……

The new look, coordinated attire and new setup are very nice. The customer service was very poor. The cashier seemed like she didnt want to be there. A gent at the counter ordering took about 10 ten minutes to order and pay. There were 4 of us in line. We asked if someone else could help us or take our order. Crickets. Everyone behind the glass said nothing and never smiled. At all. They ignored us completely.
The duo in front of me stepped up and the cashier just said,”Whats your order?” No apology for the long wait, no hello/good evening or anything. They ordered. I ordered.

I ordered a cheesesteak with no mayonnaise. The cashier put in capital letters on the slip, NO MAYO. You guessed it! Globs of mayo all up and thru my cheesesteak. So, the first meal of my day once I got home at 9pm….Ruined.
What is needed:
Better customer service.
Pleasant staff.
Attention to detail.

Maxx’s has NEVER gotten my order wrong.
Whatever this new regime is needed to be evaluated, expeditiously.

Someone recommended this place to me as the best spot to get a Philly cheesesteak from and let me tell you, it disappointed. I was waiting on Ashton Kutcher to pop out and say we were being punked. First and foremost, the lady who took our order was rude as ever, and she is definitely going to be the restaurants downfall. She is the main reason why my family and I will NEVER revisit this establishment. We drove an hour and 30 minutes and this was our first time visiting and I can assure you that it will be our last. My husband and I were looking at the menu trying to figure out what we wanted, the lady was responding rudely to us and kept rolling her eyes with every question we asked. Honestly, if we didn’t drive so far in the pouring rain, I would have just left the establishment. She kept cutting us off, huffing and puffing and rolling her eyes at us. If we are going to spend our hard earned money anywhere, we should be treated with respect. I’m not sure what conversation she had to have with her coworker but it was more important than trying to help us because as soon as she finished with us, she started conversing with the young lady. And using profane language which is not appropriate for the workplace especially when you have customers. The picture I included is the rude lady and you can see how deep in conversation she is with her counterpart. Her attitude was as stink as her facial expressions. If it wasn’t for her, I’d honestly try this place out again because for a first experience, this cheesesteak was basic. It’s nothing spectacular and I’ve honestly had better. For the most part, it was decent but I’d never revisit because of the experience with the lady (pictured below). I even dreaded asking for ketchup for our fries when we were leaving because she was so nasty and trust, she didn’t disappoint. She acted like I was bothering her when I asked for ketchup. She needs a job behind the scenes and customer interaction is not her forte. Please hire people who are friendly because she will definitely be the downfall of this place. Also my sandwich was missing several things but I didn’t feel like going back in to deal with peoples attitudes.

If I could give the store a zero I would. Poor customer service & a deceiving menu. Menu says half / whole cheesesteaks – but doesn’t list the measurement of half or whole. I ordered a whole cheesesteaks – expecting a 12 in / 1 ft cheesesteak (was puzzled by the $30 price). When the order was complete was handed a 2 ft / 24 in cheesesteak. The lady at the cash register was extremely rude & not helping & deceptive as well.

I was in town and was told they have the best cheese steaks but unfortunately I couldn’t say the same thing. The seasoning wasn’t on point, so I had to doctor it up myself. For this to be my first time, I was very disappointed. On top of that, I didn’t get my mayo or my peppers. I tried calling them, but was on hold for almost a hour while the recording kept saying I was first in line. I had to hang up cause I don’t think anybody would’ve answered the phone.
