Social Profile:

Bácaro Restaurant was founded in 2007 along the riverfront in downtown Providence. Named after the Bácari of Venice, Bácaro focuses on Italian cuisine, applying a simple approach to indigenous ingredients. The name Bácaro comes from what the Venetians refer to their small wine bars as, “Bácari” named so after the God of wine Bácchus. In Venice, these lively wine bars focus on small bites of food called “Cicchetti”, pronounced “chee-keh-tee” Bácaro is a multi-conceptual restaurant offering customers the unique experience of a Venetian Bácari, a Roman Sálumeria, and an Upscale Restaurant. The experience can be as simple as a board of mixed sálumi, cheeses & olives with Venetian tapas and wine to a multi-course fine dining experience.

Riverside setting for Italian fare: sizable wine list, extensive cured-meats menu & daily specials.

This was the #1 place for special occasions when I was an undergrad at Brown -birthdays, anniversaries, parents in town who could fit the bill lol. Good for dates or a group. Now whenever I find myself in Providence I make sure to stop here at least once. It never disappoints.

The last 2 times we’ve been served by Kristine who is so warm and accommodating, and makes great recommendations too.

From someone who has been here many times and tried many things now…everything is good but always, always get the Pasta Con i Funghi.

I dined at Bacaro for the first time last night. My boyfriend and I had dinner at Bacaro on New Year’s Eve as the restaurant is situated right next to where the fireworks location is. We had a phenomenal meal here. All of the staff (hostesses, food runners, our server) were incredibly kind and helpful. I am still drooling over our entrees.

For an appetizer, we had the wood grilled octopus which was so yummy served with these white beans and spinach. For my entree, I had the pasta con funghi. The flavors in that dish were unlike anything I’ve had before. It is served with egg and truffle and you mix it all up into this utter deliciousness. Not pictured, I also ordered a side of crusted chicken for some added protein, which hit the spot. My boyfriend enjoyed the Cioppino, especially the scallops. For dessert we shared the warm rustic crostata with apples and espresso. Our server informed us the desserts are all made to order from scratch, which was lovely to hear as you don’t come across that often.

One of the very best dining experiences in Providence! From-scratch Italian dishes made to order. From high-end charcuterie to grilled pizza, Bacaro has it all.

2nd review – gave this place another shot. Called in two pizzas for pick up on the way home from work. On the phone, “yes I would like to order two pizzas for pick up. One margherita and one with the spicy soppressata.” – girl on the other line “ok a margherita and a spicy pizza.” – I said “no the pizza with the spicy sopressata (pepperoni) and a margherita.” – “ok got it.” She said 30-45 minutes. I was surprised since it was a Wednesday night at 5:30PM. Lo and behold I went in after 20 minutes and the pizza was ready. I’m sure it would have been ice cold if I waited another 10-15 minutes. Not surprised with this place that she gave us the wrong pizza. She gave us a Margherita and a “Spicy Pizza” which I guess is on the menu. Two of the same exact pizza but one is spicy. Really hate to criticize the employees because they’re nice and seem to want to do a good job but just don’t. Came here in the past and it was just a mess. This was my 2nd shot because the pizza is good. They need a new GM or a new overhaul training for the entire staff. This restaurant has the bones to be good and the real estate is great. It’s clear the leadership is mediocre. $64 for the two pies keep in mind. I’m going to complain about the price because I understand the costs behind it. I am ok with that. This place just can’t seem to rise to the occasion to be an actual worthy visit. Shame on me for giving them another shot. Place was empty by the way. Hostesses need training too.

I’ve been trying to get him believing or not for almost 10 years and for some reason or another never made it until I had reservations for Valentines tonight. I truly wish I had not waited this long Josh the manager was in graduating and welcoming and our waitress Natasha was top-notch The staff moves and functions like a Swiss Watch. All courses were impeccably executed and the atmosphere is more warm and pleasing in person. Pictures do not do this establishment justice.

Well done. We will be back

My partner and I dined at Bacaro last night, and we were genuinely impressed by both the exceptional food and outstanding service. We sampled several tapas along with a couple of entrées, and every dish showcased remarkable quality. Providence offers countless Italian dining options, but Bacaro stands out as one of the most authentic.

When my entrée arrived, the server shared a thoughtful note from the chef with tips on how best to enjoy the dish, a detail that truly enhanced the meal. I ordered the Pasta con Funghi, served with a lightly fried egg that acts as a natural cream sauce. This is classic Italian technique at its finest: no heavy cream, yet the sauce was luxuriously creamy, highlighting the integrity of the ingredients.

I rarely write online reviews, but Bacaro exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to return!

4 star food, 2 star service. The waiter was pleasant, but it was an odd experience. He made sure that we understood that all food was prepared in house (from scratch) — which I would have assumed anyway — and that, accordingly, some meals could take up to an HOUR to prepare. An hour?!

That was all fine, but then I ordered the prix fixe, and that really put him off, stating that since the other three guests weren’t ordering the prix fixe and weren’t getting apps, my app salad course would be very disruptive to the overall dinner. Wow. I ordered it anyway and everything worked out fine lol. Phew!
