I have had Chinese food from all over our country, some good some bad but if you would have told me that Edgewood NM had some of the best I have ever had, I would have probably just laughed inside. Try this place out because they don’t cut corners. I will say this is very good.

The food was absolutely delicious here!! I live 45 min away and I know this won’t be the last time we take the trip out here! Sooooo delicious, highly recommend! I got Mongolian beef, my husband got 3 item Mongolian, and my son got orange chicken!

Okay, I will say I was really hesitant to eat here because we live in a tiny town and I hadn’t heard much about it since moving here a year ago. Ladies and gents, it was GOOD. I’ve tried a lot of Chinese food that knocked it out of the park and I am really picky, but China Chef did a really solid job. We all tried a bunch of different foods and all were really great tasting meals. You couldn’t beat the price, either. $65 for 4 combination plates, two appetizers and 4 drinks?! Sold. We will definitely be back!

50 bucks down the drain.
The workers were very nice however I’m really disappointed on the food. Our first time and probably our last. We ordered our food to go. And we go home to a huge disappointment. Our order was wrong. We decided to go ahead and eat since we weren’t really wanting to drive back . the rice was hard and old. And the meat on the orange chicken had a horribly funky taste. The Mongolian beef which is one of my favorite dishes. The smell was so bad I had to close the container right back up. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be going back and I’m hoping the orange chicken doesn’t make me sick

Food is always great and is served quickly. Seems family-run but they keep it very professional and friendly. The atmosphere is exactly like I’d expect when I eat at a little Chinese take out place. I love it!

We’ve tried several menu items and all are big portions and flavorful. Menu has a lot of variety including the expected staples of Chinese take-out.

Give em a try. They’re noms are so tasty I eat there almost weekly.

My photo is of their Gen Tso chicken *chef’s kiss*

Friendly staff convenient location. The food however was a bit of a let down. The pork fried rice was borderline inedible to me. I am exaggerating

a bit their but it was not good and it looks orange like they used food coloring or something to color it? very unnatural.

the foo young however was good and so was the gravy. just the rice was “meh” at best

The egg roll I got was junk. would not order that again. however the shrimp rolls very fantastic. absolutely top notchs. Golden brown but not burnt nice and fluffy steamy and moist inside great flavor

The wonton soup. big let down as well. no pork or scallions to give that wider flavor profile I was used too back east and just tasted “meh” now maybe the horrid hot mustard might be part of this? the hot mustard packs were really yucky. no real flavor very “one dimensional” enough that it took away from the food. SO maybe the food would be better with no mustard or if I brought my own better quality mustard. its that strong an influencer that it could be the issue so I will probably give them another shot and just not use their mustard.

but the two big no’s from me are the horrible egg rolls and the very “orange” pork fried rice. I mean when I say orange (my favorite color no less) I am not kidding I opened the box and went why the he** is it orange????

so going to leave it at a 3 till I try them again to give them a fair shake. with supply issues (out of duck sauce and soy sauce packets) maybe they just got some nasty mustard they don’t normally get?

I will give them another shot or just limit to things that are good. Still though the shrimp rolls were absolutely top notch! expensive but top notch. I can easily see ordering 4 or 5 of those and munching them down for a lunch and being quite happy about it 🙂

Crab rangoons were good crunchy outside creamy inside. not bad. but the dipping sauce weak and thin. she liked them. The fried dumplings she was not thrilled with but they looked and smelled good to me. I think she was just “used” to them being prepared differently. IE steamed them fried a little like back east but these were more crispy (they way I prefer them oddly enough) so a lot of this comes down to comfort and preference.

but the egg rolls should not be meager and overcooked? did not taste overcooked but sure looked it and the rice should not be ORANGE it should a nice khaki/tan color. the other things might come down to the mustard and might not be entirely their fault.

I have absolutely tasted much much worse chinese takeout and NONE of the food actually tasted “bad”. this was no where near that bad. so next time will tell. see if I get a repeat or a rebound.

My husband and I are pretty picky about Chinese food, and I must say that China Chef is the best! We love giving them our business. The staff and owners have great attitudes, and the food is delicious every time! We have tried several dishes there, but we tend to get chicken lo mein, beef and vegetables, beef and broccoli, and spring rolls.

I’m 9 months pregnant and have been searching for Lo Mein the entire time. Nothing has satisfied. And I mean NONE of the Chinese restaurants in Albuquerque did the trick. But this place? This glorious unassuming hole in the wall, where the kids are doing homework and the family is laughing about farts? Literally. The. Best. Chinese. Food. I’ve. EVER. Had. HANDS DOWN.
When I was younger my dad used to pick up Chinese take out on rare occasions, never thought I would be able to pinpoint that beautiful flavor that lit up my dinner table on special nights. Then I found China Chef. Every bite was as delicious and nostalgic as the Lo Mein that graced my lips back in 2004, but now on this 2025 evening.
Seriously- eat here. You will not regret it.
5++++ stars.
