I had such a great experience here. The food was seriously delicious — everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. The service was awesome too; everyone was super friendly and checked on us just the right amount. The atmosphere was really nice and relaxing, perfect for hanging out and enjoying a good meal.

I also loved how quickly everything came out without feeling rushed. The staff seemed genuinely happy to be there, which made the whole visit even better. Overall, it just felt like one of those spots you can count on for a consistently great time.

Definitely a place I’d come back to and recommend to others!

From out of town but wish I could take this restaurant back home with me! Great food & casual atmosphere.

Didn’t expect much, but was blown away by how good the shrimp was. I eat shrimp everywhere I go and that was the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, fully cooked with a hint of butter in the after taste!!!

The service was excellent, and the margaritas were tasty. The chile relleno was stuffed with what apparently was runny American cheese, which was not correct at all. 2.5 stars, unfortunately.

As a local, the old la luz restaurant was a ‘go to’. Great authentic food at good prices. The new El Rey has thrown that out the window.
The food is just ok. Not horrible but not great. It is, however, priced so high that you’re expecting something better. It’s just your standard taco and beans.
The drinks are even more expensive. They put no drink prices in the menu for a reason. The beer prices are on par with the tourist traps like the hangout or lulus but without the view or ambiance. Not what you’d expect from a standard Mexican restaurant in a strip mall. I’m not a huge margarita guy but my friends that are didn’t finish theirs. Couldn’t taste any tequila and the mix was just bad.
We’ve tried to give this place every chance. We’ve been there three times in the last few months (as I said, it used to be a go to). We’re done. Don’t waste your precious eating out time or money on this place.

The House Margarita was awful. Tasted like lime flavored water with salt. I never send drinks back but had no choice in this case. In addition, there were no prices on the menu for the alcoholic beverages. We like to support local restaurants but we won’t be back.

We love this place! Previous owners were nice enough but the food was inconsistent and terrible most of the time. We have been back 5 or 6 times since the new owner took over and food is wonderful! We have ordered 5-6 different items and they have all been great! Love the Chicken Enchilada Verdes! Margaritas are really good to with specials on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Food was amazing loved it what i didn’t like was the prices, one of the most expensive Mexican restaurants I’ve ever ate at $4 each for drinks plus a family of 6 they hit us for a gratuity 20% never thought a family of 6 was a big party, total bill was $135 4 adult plates 2 kids and cheese dip

We were visiting for the long weekend and looking at properties when we decided to stop here for a meal, which turned out to be a huge mistake. The restaurant was filthy, and the waitress lacked basic manners. There was only one toilet available, and the food tasted like cheap frozen meals. We ended up paying $60 for two overcooked dishes that had more onions than meat. The chips tasted stale, and the sauce was what you’d find in a can at the dollar store. Please don’t make the same mistake we did; there are plenty of other places we wanted to try, but we wasted our chance here. It’s better to spend a little more for a decent meal than to throw away your time and money.

I had the 1/2 order of Nachos. They were the best nachos I’ve had in a long long time. Everything was fresh and tasty including the veggies (tomatoes, jalapeños, lettuce), the meat was perfect, and the nachos were crispy.

Additionally the salsa is spectacular.

Valerie, our waitress was helpful and her service was too notch.
