I’ve been trying to make it here for several months but I’ve always had other plans that have prevented me from going. Glad my schedule finally allowed me to give it a try.

The food was phenomenal! I had the schnitzel with brown gravy, smoked ham, mashed potatoes and brown gravy, sauerkraut with bacon, German chocolate mousse, and a Paulaner beer.

If you have never been, this is an absolute must try! 10/10, highly recommend!

Staff were friendly family feast style dining. Food just didn’t seem authentic. It was good food but was not the authentic German food I was expecting. Sauerkraut was extremely tart with what appeared to be bacon bits and the schnitzel mushroom gravy was white with mushrooms. I personally have never had it that way so it was just different.
I would still recommend experiencing the food because it is good just different which is why I’m still rating it high.

If you like finding ‘off the beaten path’ places, this is the place for you!! WOW!! I personally love German food and when I can find a place that serves more than a grilled brat, it makes me super happy. Schatzi’s won’t disappoint. Food was great. The menu is however what the chef wants to make that day, but the food the night we went was amazing. Red pepper gravy was spot on. Everything down to the mustard seemed to be homemade from scratch. Don’t skip the warm pretzels.

Interestingly, they serve it cafeteria style from their bar top, but it makes the experience feel like family and something you would expect from a small town atmosphere. Atmosphere was fun too. Lots of interesting things to check out.

Just as a heads up, I don’t know if this place is open everyday or just when they run these specials. Their door says they are a catering company, not a restaurant. So you might check their facebook page before you go. If they are open though, it is worth the drive. I snapped a few pictures since the ones on Google Maps are clearly way out of date.

We shouldn’t have waited so long to try this phenomenal German food! We will be back time and time again!! We had one of everything on the Menu…it’s so hard to pick a favorite thing…it is all skillfully made with lots of LOVE!!
Seeing the big pan of homemade giant Pretzels was an extra bonus!! We got 2 to have with our lunch and more to take home with us!

Schatzi’s offers a genuine taste of German cuisine in Riley, and the food itself is undeniably good. The schnitzel is prepared well—crisp on the outside, tender on the inside—and the sides, like the spaetzle and potato salad, are clearly homemade and flavorful. If we were judging purely on taste, it would easily earn high marks as a unique local experience.
However, the price point is quite steep, and frankly, the food is only barely worth the high cost. The quality and flavor are there, but they don’t quite justify the expense, making it feel less like a value and more like an over-priced indulgence. It’s a place for a special occasion only, and even then, you’ll likely feel a sting when the bill arrives. The overall value equation is definitely tilted away from the customer here

Best authentic German Food that you can get in the Midwest!! When I heard the first time of Schatzi’s Schnitzelhaus I was skeptical, but Chef Manfred never disappoints: awesome Schnitzel, Maultaschen, Spaetzle, Brezel and much more!! But it is not only the food, also the heartwarming atmosphere in a restaurant that looks like a German Bierstube and thanks to his lovely wife Shari and the Schatzi team who make you feel welcome. Nothing beats a Schnitzel with German beer and a smile! Looking soooooo forward to the next time and especially the Octoberfest.

Near as I can tell this place serves a meal once month and you get to pick what you want from what they have made that day. You wait in the long line (COMPLETELY worth the wait), tell them what you want, they plate it up, you pay & man was it delicious!! It is a shame that this was my first time there, would have loved to have been eating there years prior. Well worth the drive & the “Bee Hive” cake is something I really hope I get to experience again from them!!

This is the real deal! Chef Manfred prepares amazing German dishes. Everything is good. Menu rotates. Might include Schnitzel, gravy, sauerkraut, Rotkohl, green beans, beets, Semmelknödel (my fave), Kāsespätzle, Kassler, or massive pretzels. Don’t miss the cake! Schatzi’s makes me sooo happy! Prost!
