Social Profile:

We are the oldest restaurant in Cincinnati and have been serving beer and food lovers since 1865. We pride ourselves on our extensive German tap list, but you can also find a good selection of imports, craft, cocktails, and wine. Our menu consists of classic German and American fare, with several vegetarian and pescatarian options. We have a beautiful outside Biergarten (which is ranked as one of the best in the nation), and a cozy Bavarian-style dining room and bar area inside. We really are a one-of-a-kind experience in the city, so we hope you will visit us soon!

Traditional German dishes served in a historic, Bavarian-style setting with a beer garden.

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday. It was pretty slow, and got seated straight away. The server was outstanding, being the perfect balance of attentive and unobtrusive. Very nice selection of beers, mostly German, of course. The menu was quite limited, but still sufficient. Got the pretzel from the appetizer list, and it was fantastic! Largest pretzel I’ve ever seen. Came with beer cheese and mustard, which was nice to have and go back and forth between the two. The fish and chips were pretty good. Pretty generous portions, and I couldn’t finish it all. The reuben was really good, too. Overall, it was a bit spendy, but worth it to sit in the oldest restaurant in Cinci. The history there is pretty incredible. Definitely worth the trip!

Lovely night out with friends from out of town. I didn’t take a a picture of mine but I had Veal Schnitzel which was awesome. My boyfriend and friend had the mushroom spaetzl with grilled chicken and friends daughter had the Rueben and I was pleasantly surprised that they didn’t mind leaving off sauerkraut and thousand island sauce. Jennifer was a great waitress! Loved the live music and being in the bier garden. Perfect night!

Service is slow. Food is okay. Go for the atmosphere of Zinzinnati’s oldest restaurant and the outdoor seating available with fire pits. At several different points after ordering they had to inform us that a dish or certain ingredient was out of stock. Ideally, the restaurant should let us know before ordering what items are not available. I would recommend the Currywurst for a child as it’s basically sausages in ketchup.

There was a time that this restaurant was awesome. German beers, schnitzels, amazing cabbage…but this is today and the experience is, at best, marginal. I hate to review this restaurant as such as I want it to succeed, but the menu is an eviscerated shell of its former self. Our server was kind of indifferent to almost everything. We asked for a couple of different beers–both of which were out–to which she said, “we’re all out” and then handed us a hand written note of what was available. The place’s ambiance is still on point, a vestige of a time when service was valued, but it adds a depressive air to it all. You’re eating in the ruins of Ancient Rome. At one time, this place was amazing but now we are in the dark ages. I imagine it’s just a post-COVID thing but it’s very sad for a Cincinnati staple since the 1880s. Oh how I long for the past. Eat at your own risk. 🙁 Auf Wiedersehen , old Mecklenberg.

We were looking for a unique place to eat while in Cincinnati and found this place. It has an old world charm, very good service and the food was very good. I didn’t give the food a 5 because the food wasn’t great but still very good. My husband and I both had the schnitzel($23),we both thought it was a little overcooked but the sauce was great and my kids thoroughly enjoyed their meals. It had some good very beer choices also.

A real German restaurant. With real Germans. And real German food. Don’t forget the real German beer. Schnitzel was excellent. The goulash was even better. The old photos and the old features of the dining area just enhanced the entire experience.

I love old traditional restaurants especially Ole school German restaurants and when you can tell and taste the reason why a business last so long its always easy to see. The food, service and ambiance is top notch. The building in fun is a little deceiving but once inside your transformed to the old school charm

Cool outdoor patio area. Came in handy on the cool night we were there. I had the BLT wrap with fries and enjoyed it. There was a close soccer match on TV which made for a fun experience.

Overall the food and the drinks and the service were good.

Food was delicious with outdoor seating reminiscent of a Bavarian biergarten. Service was amazing with a knowledgeable waitress and the desert… the desert apple strudel was amazing. Appetizers were pretzel with bier cheese and the sausage sampler. My meal was the sauerbraten. One of the best I’ve ever had. The beers were awesome as well. Several on tap and many bottled unique selections.
