I have been to this restaurant a few times last year in October (to honor Turkish Heritage Month) and my last time going to this place so far was on the nineteenth of May to celebrate the day the Turkish War of Independence began. I love this place very much and to my knowledge, I have dined in on five occasions.

Tucked away in the middle of the Oranges, this Mediterranean restaurant was a surprising find. The ambiance is elegant and thoughtfully designed, with attention to detail in both the decor and the presentation of the food. The staff is professional, attentive, and welcoming.

That said, this is more of a refined, white-tablecloth dining experience—not your typical casual spot. After arriving straight from a hike, we initially felt slightly out of place. But the staff quickly put us at ease with their warm hospitality.

We were fortunate to visit on Mother’s Day, when they were offering a full-course menu. The cold appetizers were a strong start—especially the grape leaves and the hummus, both full of flavor and freshness. The ezme had a spicy kick, but wasn’t a standout.

Among the hot appetizers, the fried shrimp stole the show. Encased in a perfectly crispy batter, it was arguably the best I’ve had. The shepherd’s salad was fresh, juicy, and well-balanced in flavor.

For the main course, I ordered the lamb chops—well done—and was pleased with how juicy and expertly grilled they were. The chicken shish kebab, however, felt a bit underwhelming. One consistent highlight across all the mains was the dill-topped rice, which added an aromatic and savory touch to the meal.

To end, we had the künefe. While slightly burnt on the edges, it still hinted at how delicious it could have been if executed perfectly. It seemed like it wasn’t originally part of the day’s fixed menu, so we appreciated that the kitchen prepared it for us nonetheless.

Overall, I would recommend this place if you’re in the mood for Mediterranean cuisine and are looking for an elevated dining experience—perfect for a special occasion or a date night.

We reserved a Saturday lunch spot here. Upon arrival there was only one other party in the restaurant. But the restaurant had an amazing pleasant interior. Very well decorated.

The menu was exciting, full of great Turkish dishes. We started with the calf liver. My most favorite item of the day. It tasted so good. Then we had calamari and grilled octopus. Again both were amazing quality. Then we had mixed kebab platter. All the meats were tender. Loved the bread and rice. Finally we also had grilled Branzino. The filet was moist and delicious.

There was only one lady who was hosting, waitressing and cooking partially as well. Even though the food was fantastic, the service was little abrupt. Some our dishes also took really long time. It’s really pricey as well. They also charge $2 per water bottle that they serve instead of tap water. So I made sure we took our remaining water with us, not to waste them.

I was here for the first time with my family to celebrate my mother’s birthday. My parents had eaten here before, and this was their recommendation. My husband and I were so impressed by the quality and presentation of the food, and our family was taken care of so thoroughly and with such kindness by Nora, the incredible server/hostess. She was attentive from the moment we walked in to the moment we left, despite being the only server there.

We all enjoyed the fried calamari and dip sampler, I loved the baby lamb chops special (so juicy and tender), and my husband really enjoyed the adana kabob. The coffee was delicious, and Nora helped dress up a simple birthday cake we had brought in with a special candle and birthday decoration.

Thank you, Nora, for making this such a special celebration for my mom and our family. We truly appreciate it!

Love those place. It was my first time here. We came a group of 5. The place is super clean. It’s a family restaurant. Everyone is super friendly. The food was amazing. Ordered humus with chips as an appetizer. We ordered a variety of things: Grilled mixed (chicken, lamb, beef with fries and rice), whole fish, salad , eggplant. For dessert, it was a goatcheese with jce cream. Trust me and taste it. You can bring your own wine. Their Iced tea is good. Definitely coming back.

If you rate the dishes here 5 stars, it would be unfair to the restaurants that use higher quality, more expensive products, probably. Still, Paterson has the best Turkish restaurants in New Jersey. The cuisine here is not bad, but in comparison, TheBosphorus is inferior. The meat dishes contained a lot of fat and the fried squid was also too oily.

I had such a wonderful experience dining at this restaurant today. From the moment we sat down, we were warmly welcomed. The service was incredibly fast, and everything was prepared with great care. The food was absolutely delicious – both the appetizers and the main dishes were fresh and beautifully presented. The dessert was simply amazing, and serving it with ice cream was such a lovely touch.

The lady who served us was extremely kind, friendly, and welcoming. She truly made us feel at home, and that kind of genuine hospitality makes the whole experience even more special. The atmosphere was also very clean, bright, and comfortable.

Overall, I am beyond satisfied with both the food and the service. I highly recommend this place to everyone and will definitely be coming back soon.

Went here to take my mom out for dinner. Host was great and had a whole conversation with us about mother’s and sons and even introduced us to her son who was helping her out in the restaurant.

We got the Calamari, Stuffed Grape Leaves for appetizers and they were both good. Fresh and very delicious. The Turkish coffee was very unique as well, strong coffee with a lot of flavor but not much bitterness or acidity. Turkish tea for my mom was ok, but it felt a little weak compared to the Indian teas we’re used to drinking.

For entrees it was the Bosphorous style sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly but had a little too much cheese on top of it. The Adana Kebab for my mom was great, meat was very juicy and she loved it. The whole presentation for each course we had was very beautiful.

For dessert we got the Kunefe and Baklava. The Kunefe is easily the best dessert I’ve ever had at a Mediterranean spot. I took a chance on it after being recommended the dish from the matronly owner and it did not disappoint. The goat cheese along with the sweet syrup was a delectable combination. The baklava was good but I’ve had better and not going to complain about it since it was still good.

Overall it was a great experience and night out with my mom who had a very nice time. The whole experience of food, welcoming service and ambiance is something I look forward to experiencing again in the near future.

This establishment is a hidden gem—quite literally because they are off the main road near the corner of Centre Street, across the parking aisle from the Nutley Diner. The owners of the Bosphorus are a mother-and-son team who always go out of their way to accommodate us more than a handful of times, including tonight for dinner. My partner, our friends and I were a party of nine. Nora is usually at the front to greet and seat everyone, always making you feel like you’re eating in a nice room of a family’s home. For starters, we decided on puffed roll pastry, fried calf liver, lebni, fried calamari, and hummus. For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Adana, Lamb Shank, Lamb Chops, Lamb Shish Kebob, Branzino Fillet, Grilled Salmon Fillet, and Chicken Fingers. Complimentary warm pide bread began our meal. Gokhan, the chef, and the other part of the duo team personally visited each table to bring food and make small talk. The food is always wonderful, tasty, authentic, and beautifully presented—a real work of art. We didn’t have room for desserts, but Nora insisted and gave us a small, delicious piece of baklava. The restaurant’s ambiance was inviting, and the service was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. It is BYOB, and reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, which we continue to recommend.
