As someone who grew up in the islands, I know what authentic island flavors are supposed to taste like—and this Jamaican restaurant nails it, even when it comes to vegetarian options. Their veggie plate is a amazing. The fried plantains are sweet and caramelized, adding the perfect contrast to the savory elements on the plate.

Paired with fluffy rice and peas, steamed vegetables, and maybe a side of yams, this veggie plate feels like home. It’s not just a meal; it’s a true taste of island life for plant-based eaters or anyone looking to enjoy a fresh, flavorful dish.

Wasn’t too pleased with the service or the plate that I paid for. Restaurant owner. I believe she was trying to sell me that I didn’t want, and I’ve been eating to Jamaican food over 30 years. So I asked the young lady. What comes with the tale meal? She told me rice and peas, cabbage, Plantains and oxtails. I received a plate. It was no cabbage. She told me I had to pay extra for the cabbage for a side till she just completely lied to me. The only thing that was really entertaining when I went to the restaurant was the Jamaican music devil’s playing. That’s about it.

If I could give this place 1000/10 I would. Coming from NYC being able to eat foods that brought comfort and our family together was super important. It’s amazing to have this gem here in Alabama. The flavors brought me back to my childhood eating oxtails with my family. Do not come here expecting cold, fast service. Good things take time and I promise it is worth the wait. Can’t wait to come back ❤️

My experience at Akye Cuisine & Catering was absolutely wonderful! The Jamaican food was incredibly flavorful and authentic, with every dish showcasing the rich spices and unique ingredients of the island. From tender jerk chicken to perfectly seasoned oxtail, each bite was a true delight. The warm, welcoming atmosphere of the place made it feel like a home away from home. The service was friendly and attentive, and the presentation of the food was impeccable. I highly recommend Akye Cuisine & Catering for anyone craving a taste of Jamaica! ❤️

I tried the curry goat, rasta pasta, and stew beef and they were all amazing! I live about an hour from here but will definitely be driving back regularly.

Had the oxtail, and my friend had the chicken curry. The flavor was good, but both of our entrees were 80% bone and only about 20% meat. If I had scraped all the meat off my oxtail, I might have had a chicken tender worth of meat. My friend’s curry chicken had a lot of small, sharp bones that kept stabbing the inside of their mouth, and caution became necessary so as not to accidentally bite down on or swallow one. Our rice and beans were good, but they made up about 75% of our meal. Our meals together cost about $60, and I don’t think they were at all worth that price. I would’ve gladly paid maybe $35 for both. Also they were out of most of the things we tried ordering at first.

I didn’t hate the food, but for the price the value simply isn’t there, so I doubt I will be returning.

I like Ting though.

It’s definitely good food, the owner was very nice And the food was Authentic. I got the curry goat and curry chicken combo, substituted cabbage for plantains and a drink which came out to be $49 plus Change tip included. Later I bought a beef patty, which was phenomenal. But it was only her there so we did have to wait for her to make everything fresh, worth the experience if you’ve never been but but something I could afford weekly.

The jerk chicken was dry, good flavor. The rice and beans were also very dry/bland. The cabbage had good flavor. Plantains were very dry and not ripe, I have never been to a Jamaican restaurant that did not caramelize the plantains and make them wet. Good for the area, the ladies that run the restaurant are very polite and sweet no complaints from the service wish the food was a little better
