Came here for the Korean fried chicken. Unfortunately it was the driest and blandest Korean chicken I’ve ever had. Even the japchae and mandu were really bland and flavorless. The only good thing we had here was the soup

Newtown Korean Restaurant has flavorful but light korean dishes. Each dish isnt overpowering with salt or spices, but a well balance flavor level for your pallet. The quality and fair price makes this establishment a must try!

Over priced. 2 meals and a appetizer for over $70. No drinks. Tteok-bokki was terrible. The rice cake was super mushy. The bulgogi was meh. The yukgaejang was ok but very little meat. Most of the side dishes weren’t the popular ones so didn’t eat any except the kimchi and some potato salad. Go somewhere else. We won’t be returning.

We’ve eaten here twice, the first time was excellent, the second time was pretty good, but the atmosphere was a little bit off.
Normally I don’t care too much about ambiance at a restaurant, but we were almost the only people in there and there was an older woman there watching something on a tablet, I think she was probably family. I don’t mind that at all, but she had the tablet like REALLY REALLY loud. I mean REALLY loud. It seemed like some sort of game show or something, but it really made it hard for us to have a nice dinner. We’re polite, and we figured maybe it was an older family member hard of hearing so we didn’t really say anything, but I figured the owner should have realized how loud it was. It was just uncomfortable.
The bbq chicken we got was pretty good, and the zucchini jun was good as well. My wife said the meat and fish just was just okay. We would probably order from here again, but more likely takeout.

Best Korean food I’ve had in a while, and the proprietor was so nice. My bro was a bit hesitant about what to order but wanted to try something he couldn’t easily get in the Midwest, so she recommended a pretty simple stir-fried spicy octopus. Bro ate every bite and then soaked up the sauce with his leftover rice. I got japchae, which they were able to make with no meat and brought out a side of tofu for me. They refilled our banchan multiple times, too. Great food and service. Highly recommend.

I’ve Lived in Korea for two years and this place is authentic! Took me right back to the PEN with the smells and tastes of Korean food. Highly recommend going out of your way to eat here! One plate is probably enough for two (with reasonable appetites) to eat family style.

Have tried this place twice . First time it didn’t look fresh but was okay. Second time we all got severe food poisoning and I ended up with Gastroenteritis. You would think if food sucked their service would be good too , but nope .

We ordered the meat Jun, bbq pork and bbq beef. The meat jun was dry and a little bland. Had to drench it in sauce to get any flavor. The bbq beef and pork looked identical. Honestly wasn’t sure which was which and when we asked the waitress she was hesitant about it.
It’s decent food but different from other Korean restaurants that you may be used to.

I wanted to try this place because I would always see it when I would go to Dave”s. I am Korean and is always looking for good Korean places to eat. We walked in and sat down. We looked at the menu and OMG the fricken prices for the food was stupid expensive! I said, “This place better have good food if the prices are this high!” We ordered the seafood pancake, the New Town Special and the mandoo kook soo.. After about a couple of minutes we wanted to change the order to something else and they said they were making it already. So we just stayed with what we got. When the food came out, we got the appetizer and soup first. The appetizer (Seafood pancake) was good. They gave us the ban chan (side dishes) I was not impressed. It wasnt that good. The New Town Special which was $29.99 was the biggest disappointment! It tasted worst than Pearl’s Korean BBQ which is way cheaper than this place! I was so disappointed! The bulgogi was just gross! The meat tasted like it was bad! The mandoo soup was also not that good. I wasnt impressed. The water they put on the tables had a nasty taste too! Drink bottled water. $80.00 later for 3 items! I feel like I wasted my money!

This is a good little place if you’re in Newtown, Aiea or Pearl City. They’re right on Moanalua Rd. at the entrance to Newtown community mauka of an elementary school. Parking is free in their little lot.
I was surprised that there were only 6 fried mandoo in my plate for the price (pictured, minus one I ate ;cD) but they are huge, plump and delicious. I usually find them much smaller at other restaurants.
The BBQ chicken was also yummy and the veggie sides were good too. Lots of rice.
Cashier was focusing on something else but that was ok. I didn’t need special service. Several families were in their small restaurant for Sunday lunch.
There’s a Dave’s Ice Cream right next door for dessert.
