My fiance & future mother in law, took me here, for my birthday, this past Saturday. First time being here. Cute spot, kinda reminds me of a cafe. I had salmon cakes, with collard greens & macaroni & cheese with cornbread. My fiance had the fried shrimp & mom had the baked catfish. Everything was delicious! Definitely coming back soon!

Nice spot to grab some delicious food. The wait for the food was a little long, but that didn’t take away from the flavor of the dishes. The pork chops were amazing and seasoned extremely well. My sides were ok, but the greens I did have to jazz up a bit for my liking. All together I’d visit again.

As long as you don’t walk in expecting a super fancy updated place then you are in for a treat. Older cafe and very niche menu which I loved. There was street parking. Small dining area.
Ordered the fried whiting crispy with hash browns and toast. Hubby got the fried catfish with grits and toast. One of the kids got pancakes and we got two orders of pork sausage.
My whiting was absolutely delicious. Very tasty. Hubby enjoyed his catfish. The pancakes were also good. Not too fluffy and not too stiff. Very well made. The kids loved the sausage. Hash browns were good too especially with the sliced onion pieces in it.
Service was good. At the end they gave us the wrong check so always be sure to review it.
Overall good experience. Bring cash to avoid card service fee.

The food was delicious! I took my mom there for lunch. She had fried whiting with yams and Collards. I had smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese and string beans. The pork chops were fried a little hard but still tasty. The problem was the temperature inside the restaurant was freezing. My mom kept her coat on the entire time. I normally am ok and even I was cold. I mentioned it to the waitress and she smiled saying yes it was a little chilly. I asked the cashier upon paying why it was so cold and her response was because it was cold outside. We were eating inside, but it felt almost like outside. Well just like home when the temperature drops outside, we turn up the heat inside to remain comfortable. This is what should be done so that the paying customers are comfortable as well.

I ordered the chicken and waffles, catfish, potatoes, and biscuits—and absolutely loved everything. I’m an extremely picky eater and usually don’t leave reviews, but I had to make an exception this time. The food was amazing, and the experience was even better. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve had. I can’t wait to go back! Also, my waitress today was soooooo great!

I went to Jefferson’s Cafe this morning and I’m so happy I decided to visit. We were greeted and seated right away. Throughout our time there, the servers always stopped by our table to check in on us. I really appreciated that. Service was overall top notch. I ordered the french toast with chicken wings and my husband ordered the salmon cakes with cheese grits. Everything was so delicious! This is the kind of food that sticks to your rib and makes you feel at home. We will definitely be returning for breakfast again soon.

Amazing quality food! Their salmon cakes country breakfast platter was under $15 and I didn’t expect to receive as much food as I did.
The salmon cakes were very flavorful and came out hot and fresh. They gave a heaping portion of grits which had a nice buttery taste, and the homemade biscuits were my favorite! Flaky, buttery, and perfectly salty – I probably could eat 10 of those in one sitting if I really wanted to.
My partner had the fried catfish country breakfast platter (not pictured), and the catfish was soooo delicious that I really wanted to eat his plate. I already know I’m getting that platter next time. The fish was soft and not overcooked with the breading perfectly seasoned. He got toast and home fries, which were also seasoned well, so was happy about that since I usually opt for something else as I find that most places have bland home fries. That’s not the case for Jefferson’s cafe!
This will definitely be a go-to breakfast/lunch spot 🙂 and I can’t wait to try their other dishes!

My son and I were in the mood for good fried chicken. We were not disappointed! The fried chicken was so good! Highly recommend this hidden gem in Montclair. We will be back many more times.

As everyone has already stated, service is slow, but if you’re not in a rush it’s not so bad. I wanted so much to love this place but the food was just ok. The batter used on the whiting was flavorless and too hard and thick. The home fries were overly done and hard ion the the outside. Grits were “ok”. Coffee was decent. Biscuits were good on one plate but on the other it was burnt on the outside so was too hard to eat. Nice vibe and customers. Attractive plating, but food not good enough to cause me go go back. There are better restaurants offering similar breakfast not too far away.
