Bessie Burger is hit-and-miss. Last time I would have given it 5 Stars. This time I give it 1 star. Last time the burger was so juicy and so good, cooked perfectly. Pretzel bun is really good. We ordered our burgers cooked medium and this time they were so dry and overcooked I could barely eat it and my wife didn’t eat hers and thew hers in the trash. She said the tea was old and tastes like it has sat for a couple days. She is normally going on and on about how she loves this place, how friendly the staff is, just raving about the place but couldn’t understand why no one was here . Now we understand why. Last time the staff was so friendly and courteous this time it is clear that they couldn’t care less about working here or couldn’t care less about the quality of the food or the customer’s experience. Sadly, today will probably be our last time visiting. We had hoped we found a great hidden burger place. Be aware if you substitute American cheese for Swiss cheese there will be a $0.50 up charge. Fries are really good.

Overall I’d say this place is a little overpriced for the portion size. Also the quality of food is barely noticeably above fast food. The best thing is the onion rings. They were lightly battered and really crispy. Also their mikeshakes are delicious. Overall if I were visiting Leland or living in town, do yourself a favor if you want burgers go to PT’s Grille

Amazing burgers, fries and especially onion rings! If you want the rings make sure they have the sauce that goes with them in stock. They’ve been out a few times and didn’t know until after purchase which is disappointing when they go hand in hand. Moving away so I will miss this place for sure!!

The burgers were delicious, they make their own buns fresh. The french fries and onion rings were really good too. The staff was really friendly and courteous. Definately better than PTs and Five Guys.

Burger was decent, slightly on the dry side, I like mine a little juicy. But for a 5 dollar burger without going to Wilmington, its would suffice. However; for a $9.35 meal it does not, the fries were bottom of the bag crumbs and 3 out of 10 drink choices were “out of order.”

The onion rings are amazing! I always get the 1/3lbs. Bessie burger and I would recommend you try it at least once. It has cheese, chili, coleslaw, and mustard. Also, they open at 11am on Sundays, Google maps has it wrong.

This place used to be a favorite stop of ours on the way to and from Ocean Isle beach. The past few times we went were a hit or miss but this last visit will probably be our last time. Upon walking in we were greeted (I’m being sarcastic) by a girl texting on her cellphone. My daughter finally had to get her attention so that we could start ordering. I guess we made her mad by interrupting her because she looked completely disgusted and was unhelpful from that point. My daughter dropped her styrofoam cup on the floor and she didn’t offer to replace it. So I asked for another one and she ignored me. She handed me my cup which had a long black hair in it! The place was completely filthy…there were crumbs all over tables and all over the floor. No one was wiping down or picking up. One of our burgers was made incorrectly and the cook stormed over to our table with a very angry look on his face and asked us what the problem was. We told him and thanked him and he stormed off. Any request or gesture we made was met by disgust. We spent well over $30 including a tip for three of us and received nothing but frowns and displeasure. It’s such a shame because their burgers and fries are very good and the onion rings are excellent. If you do go…I would recommend getting it to go as the current staff is clearly annoyed by their customers.

Original burgers and relaxed atmosphere. Food was good and staff was friendly. 4 stars because the burgers were a little dry but we ate here late. So, I’ll be back for a second try.
