I cannot believe we didn’t know this place existed until now! We sat at the bar and had the best experience. Great alt rock music, amazing attentive bar tenders and servers, and the drinks and food OH MY GOD INCREDIBLE!! Must must go neighborhood spot. You’ll leave feeling so good!

Came here for a quick happy hour meal and drinks with my friend. For $15 you get two tacos, a beer and a shot.. what a great deal! We also split the nachos which were loaded and you didn’t have to pay extra for meat or guac. It was so cute inside as well such a gem!!

This is an amazing spot for fantastic food (brunch, happy hour, and dinner). The standard menu is delicious, but I also love that they have a rotating menu and specials. The decor is beautiful, and the outside seating, when weather permits, is perfection. Highly recommend nacho and margarita happy hour, the queso fundido, all tacos, and so much more. Take out is great too!

We came here for dinner and got carne asada tacos and pancita chicharons tacos. They were really insanely good. Hand made tortillas, delicious green and red salsas. We actually ended up coming back the next day to try the burrito. Also very good! For what it’s worth, this is coming from a Californian who grew up with access to the best, and this place competes. Rare out of state gem.

Last week I came with friends to eat at Barbaro since it was recommended by my friend that loves this place. The food and drinks at this restaurant were outstanding and are the only reason this is not a lower rating. Unfortunately, the service during our visit was unacceptable.
Our server, who later stated that he was also one of the managers, rarely came to our table. So I got up and approached him with a simple question about one of the menu items— because he had not checked on us— he responded rudely and told me to go back to my table and wait for him to come to us. His tone and manner were dismissive and unprofessional.
When I asked to speak with a manager, he informed me that he was the manager, and denied to provide his name. Which I had to ask later for his name to another person who was also working there. If that is the case, this interaction is especially concerning. Guests should never be spoken to in this way, particularly when asking a reasonable question.
This restaurant serves delicious food and excellent drinks, but the service—especially from someone claiming to be management—needs serious improvement.

Barbaro Taqueria is truly a gem in Chicago. The food is absolutely incredible with fresh, bold flavors that hit every time and dishes that feel both comforting and elevated. You can tell there is real care behind everything that comes out of the kitchen.
The atmosphere is just as impressive. It is vibrant without being overwhelming and cozy without feeling cramped. Whether you are stopping in for a casual bite or settling in with friends, it just feels good to be there.
