The atmosphere takes you on a journey to Greece. The decor, the murals, the music. I haven’t been yet but more inspired to go.
The service was great from the door to our server Amir. He greeted us with a smile, offered great recommendations and then told us about a dessert he personally made the orange sauce for. Amir was very personable and didn’t just say rehearsed scripts to sound polite, but listened, laughed and even offered some humor.
The FOOD! Not just authentic but authentic homestyle Greek food. It taste like someone’s grandma ( or whatever the Greek word for grandma is) was in the kitchen making her specialty. The flavors merged together making every bite delicious. Our appetizer was a special with feta stuffed meatballs and pita bread. Just as I was about to ask for more bread, the server brought this delicious buttery toasted sourdough that tasted like a fresh crouton. Our entrees were also from the specials. Prime rib with a sauce that made me want to lick my fingers. I can’t remember what it was called but it was a creamy wine sauce that complimented the meat so well. We were warned not to get too full because we had to save room for dessert.
When we were done with our mains, we were geared up for this grand dessert we had heard so much about. Then the server suggests coffee. I was completely ready to decline considering it was late evening until he said it was similar to Turkish coffee which I enjoy a store bought type but have never had it from a restaurant. The foodie in me just couldn’t decline! Let me just say the dessert and coffee were an amazing closing to this dinner.
When Amir returned he comically told us he had nothing else to offer as he had accomplished his upsales for our table .

We had a truly great experience dining here with our large group of 12 people on a busy Friday night! The food was wonderful, the atmosphere was great, and the unique entertainment was fantastic—they even had a belly dancer come around a couple of times! It was quite the spectacle. Just a heads up on the facilities: They only have one restroom per gender, which could lead to a wait during a busy rush. But overall, a wonderful night of great food and great fun!

5 Stars for Food, Service and Atmosphere!
I stopped in and ordered the Hummus Plate and the Athens Shrimp. Both were equally delicious and the atmosphere was quite nice. Very quiet and quaint during lunch time!

Food was excellent, including cobia prepared with lemon, dill, carrots and artichoke hearts. Gyro meat was tender and authentically spiced.

Service by Ameer was friendly, helpful without being overly familiar.

Ambiance from the photos, decor and music was like being in Greece

Great experience dining with a large group. We had 12 people with a reservation on a busy Friday night. The food was wonderful. The atmosphere was great. They even had a belly dancer come around a couple of times. That was quite the entertainment! The only drawback is that they have a one person restroom for each gender so this could be problematic for some on a busy night.

The Best Gyro in Indy!

I stopped by Athens on 86th for a quick lunch and tried their gyro sandwich — and wow, it was incredible. The pita was soft and warm, the gyro meat was perfectly seasoned and tender, and the tzatziki sauce was fresh, creamy, and full of flavor. Every bite tasted authentic, like something straight out of Greece.

The portion was generous, the ingredients were clearly fresh, and it was served hot and fast. You can tell they take pride in doing things right.

If you’re looking for the best gyro in Indianapolis, Athens on 86th is the place. I’ll definitely be back!

Great food. Wonderful atmosphere. Loved Evelyn… great service without hovering. The murals of Greece were beautiful.
Gyro Platter was excellent. My wife and I also loved the greek salad and green beans. She had the potatoes and I had rice. Both were perfect. Their pita bread was so fresh.
We’ll be back.

Wow! I don’t think I’ve given a 5 star review in sometime! Absolutely wonderful lamb and gyros! The service is lovely! The ambience is better! I’d recommend getting a “taste all” lazy Suzanne type of appetizer! Yumm!!

Visit 3/2/23 lunch time

My recent visit to Athens, a Greek restaurant on 86th street, was an absolutely wonderful experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the typical setting for a Greek restaurant, complete with clean Roman Empire pillars and grapes, which really set the tone for the meal.

Our waitress was prompt in greeting us and seating us, which immediately made us feel comfortable and at ease. The entire restaurant, including the bathrooms, was also impressively clean and well-maintained, which added to our positive impression.

For appetizers, I ordered the spanakopita and baklava for dessert. The spanakopita was baked and grilled to perfection, resulting in a light and flaky taste that I absolutely loved. The baklava was warmed, which really made the flavors pop and added an extra touch of deliciousness to the dessert. It was definitely a highlight of my meal.

We also ordered the lamb gyro with fries, which did not disappoint. The lamb was tender and had great flavor,
which was a testament to the restaurant’s expertise in preparing the dish.

While many believe that canola oil is a healthier option for frying food, I believe there are some concerns about its safety and potential health risks during production. However, it’s worth noting that despite these concerns, the flavor that canola oil brings to the fries is still delicious and does not sacrifice taste.

Overall, Athens is definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a delicious and tasteful Greek dining experience. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the dedication to high-quality ingredients and preparation is evident in every dish. I highly recommend giving Athens a try.

We worked with Tina at Athens to cater our engagement party and everything was fantastic! From the tasting to the communication to the final day, it was a wonderful experience! Both Americans and Greeks were complimenting the food all night! We had a little of everything including tiropita, meatballs, pasta, gyro, souvlakia, salad, desserts. It was all delicious and many guests were already planning their visits to the restaurant for more!
