What a gift to have The Oxbow in our community. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels welcoming and intentional — and the service is genuinely exceptional.

Now let’s talk about the food. I don’t hand out praise lightly when it comes to fish and chips — I’ve had plenty — and The Oxbow absolutely nails it. The fish is fresh (brought in daily), the batter is perfectly crisp without being greasy, and the thickness is just right. Every bite tastes clean, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared.

And the tartar sauce? Possibly the best I’ve ever had. The fresh dill takes it to another level — bright, flavorful, and completely addictive.

Just when you think the experience can’t improve, the homemade Sticky Toffee Pudding arrives. Rich, warm, indulgent… the kind of dessert that makes you pause mid-bite and smile.

It’s rare to find food this fresh, homemade, and consistently excellent in our area. One visit and you’ll understand why people keep coming back.

Well done, Oxbow. Truly.

Amazing. This was our first time here. We are fish & chips afficianados, having lived in New England for 10y and 35y (whose family is first generation from Ireland). The F&C are A+, no doubt…a large piece with the lightest and also robust breading possible. It was tasty and didn’t fall off the fish. The chips were steak cut and perfectly fried. I got the banoffee dessert — lovely banana and cream and crumb and chocolate shavings. Decadence.

The service was friendly and efficient without any hovering involved.

My Guinness was a perfectly creamy pour out of the tap, and my wife’s Harp was crisp and tasty.

Our service was friendly and the setting is relaxed along the river.

My friends and I finally made the journey to The Oxbow, and wow… it was absolutely worth it.

The views and atmosphere were incredible, the food was completely off-the-charts delicious—but the real highlight of our visit was, without a doubt, the owners, Ray and Alyssa. They were warm, welcoming, and genuinely excited to share what they’ve built. Talking with them, you can immediately tell they’re seasoned restaurateurs with experience from all over the world—and that passion shows in every detail.

There’s a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that says, “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm,” and Ray and Alyssa are the living, breathing definition of that sentiment.

I already can’t wait to come back—especially on a Thursday or Friday for their Fish ’n Chips night. If this visit was any indication, it’s going to be phenomenal.

Friends have been raving about the Oxbow, and after tonight’s experience, I agree with them.

First of all, a charming location and decor.

Second, the people were delightful. I like to be playful and they kicked it right back. We had a wonderful time.

Third, the fish and chips were delicious. Definitely the best we have found in this area. Not quite the same as what we get in our favorite UK and Irish places, but pretty close. Absolutely worth a repeat visit! Highly recommended.

We had our wedding reception at The Oxbow and it was absolutely magical! The view of the river and being out in nature was the cherry on top. We had about 60 people there. There was plenty of room for everyone to eat dinner comfortably upstairs. We had cocktail hour and dancing downstairs. Ray & Alyssa were amazing and answered and questions/concerns we had. I cannot recommend this venue enough for any event!

So awesome! Great food, loved dining on the deck looking at the river, and awesome people. We will definitely be back when they do bangers and mash.

Based on other reviews, my expectations may have been a little high. The fish, itself, was really good and the batter was crunchy but lacked any real flavor outside of a bit of the oil. I like steak fries (I would have liked them a little crispier), but others in my party were not fans. Also, the price point of $21.00 seemed a bit steep for one piece of fish (although good size) and a handful of fries.

Atmosphere: We visited as a group of four and loved the setting! The porch seating overlooking the river is beautiful, and the owner’s wife gave us such a warm, welcoming start to our evening.

The food: We all ordered the fish and chips. The batter was visually beautiful and perfectly crispy, but it lacked any seasoning, leaving overall flavor of the fish quite bland. The peas were unfortunately scorched, with the burnt flavor overpowering the dish.

Service: While the initial welcome was lovely, the rest of the service felt a bit disconnected. There was a 20-minute gap between our couples’ meals arriving, and our server was fairly minimal with communication. This time gap between one couple receiving their meal and the other made it difficult to enjoy a cohesive group dining experience. We did mention the scorched peas to the waitress, but the feedback wasn’t really acknowledged.

Overall: It’s a relaxing spot with fair pricing. We really want to support this local gem, so we’ll be back—we’re just hoping for more consistent timing on the dinner arrival and a bit more seasoning next time!

Fantastic spot. The food was awesome. We went on a Friday for the Fish & Chips. Get there early, as they sometimes sell out. Worth the trip. One of the best F&Cs Ive had. Great staff and the owners are just all around great folks. See you soon. Russ

The fish and chips are fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect and we went in January where the outdoor area is closed off and heated so you can still see the river . We definitely want to go back again. Ray and Alyssa and her staff are the best. We met them weeks before when we sold them some bikes and it’s how we heard about The Oxbow. Go, you will enjoy it. We will ride the Harley over from Seneca when it warms up.
