Moving reviews off Yelp. This was originally written in 2017:

This place comes across as a bit sketchy upon arrival, but aren’t those the best places sometimes?

I rolled in around 11:30 and was concerned that it was me, the guy in the cook’s outfit, the waitress and one more guy with a beer in front of him – that’s it. Ordinarily, I would have split but something was telling me to dig a little deeper beyond the first impression.

I talked the the hostess/waitress and learned that their predecessor had given way to this place. I had come in based on their predecessor’s reviews (Taqueria La Pasadita). Ok – so I wasn’t in the restaurant I was looking for but I decided to look at their menu anyways. I spotted a section with a couple of dishes they were attributing to Oaxaca, Mexico and asked the girl about those. She told me the owner is from Oaxaca and insists that part of the menu is both authentic and traditional.

I whipped out my phone and showed her a picture that Kid 2 had taken just a few days prior (in Oaxaca, Mexico) and asked if they served the same thing. After thumbing through a couple of images the girl and the cook decided that what they were looking at was their Tlayuda Oaxaquena but served more along the lines of a quesadilla than open-faced like they usually make it – he showed me a picture of it on his phone so I could see what it looked like there. The cook was quick to point out that he could fold it for me if I would like. I grabbed a table.

Chips came in a basket that was overflowing, salsa had a bit of a kick to it and was quite good but what I really liked about the first tray of stuff that was delivered was the agua con tamarindo – a huge glass of it and the flavor was just like what I was served in the little neighborhood places in Cozumel (the ones where we were CLEARLY the only white people they have seen in their restaurant in quite a while) and therefore my favorite places to eat.

The entree arrived about 5-7 minutes later. It was piping hot and made out of the largest tortilla I’ve ever seen. It was stuffed full of steak, pork, cactus, Oaxacan cheese, refried black beans, cabbage, avocado, diced tomatoes and probably a few other things things that I didn’t manage to identify. The tortilla was grilled so crispy that it would pass for a really thin pizza crust. Not wanting to wear any of my lunch before my afternoon meetings, I grabbed a knife & fork and dug in. The flavors and textures worked together really well. I picked individual things out of it just to see how they tasted by themselves and each was a bit different – as they should be. The steak was sliced really thin just like in my daughter’s photo. The cheese was slightly stringy, the vegetables were all very fresh and appropriately ripe. All in all, a very enjoyable dish even if I only made it through half of it. The only downside was the price because I dropped $20 on lunch. Still, I can’t wait to take the kid there to get her perspective on the food they claim to be authentic to her adopted second home.

Of note: I broke out my computer so I could do some work for about a half-hour or so. What I discovered is they’re not dead at lunchtime; instead, I was just their first customer. The place started to fill up around 12:30 and was about 75% full when I left at 1. Oh yeah – nobody was speaking English…always a good sign in a place like this.

Very hot inside the restaurant. Water was room temp – they did get us ice water after asking for cold water. Serving sizes are small but food was delicious

The Honduran food was excellent as were the sopes. I was shocked at how well the fried chicken paired with the slaw and plantains. There was a perfect amount of crispy on the chicken breading which balanced the creamy sour sauce. I’m a sucker for a house sauce and their fresh made spicy green salsa (use sparingly) was full of flavor and gave a punch to the sopes.

Great authentic Mexican and Honduran food. A little pricey, but you get what you paid for.

quesabirria/birria tacos.
The order came with three tacos. Initially i was going to eat one and save two for later. However after the first bite – there was no going back!! The Birria was divine! I added Valentina hot sauce – my mind blown by how all the flavors quenched while also enticing my desire to keep eating each taco!!!
I thought, afterwards, i should have taken a photo. But honestly I was taken by surprise!

I hate to make a bad review but the experience I had today couldn’t go unnoticed.

First, the menu prices you see online are NOT the same as what they will charge you. I ordered a chicken chimichanga and online it says $11.99 and I was charged $13.99 on my receipt. Just a heads up!

Second, the service I received over the phone from Emily was horrible. She tried to tell me their Flautas do not come with chicken when I am looking at the “Flautas De Pollo” on the menu. She then said “I can’t hear you” very rude like and hung up without even trying to fix the connection issue and miscommunication. I then had to call back to try to re-place me order and she finally got the order correct after I told her I am reading the menu and it’s stated CHICKEN.

Upon my arrival there was a very rude drunk lady that was making everyone uncomfortable and staff just ignored her very flagrant slurs towards customers.

Lastly… after receiving such a terrible customer service experience via phone I see a 10% service charge on my receipt.

I’ve been here many times and always loved the food but even the quality of my chimichanga today is burnt and my sour cream is watery. I’m not sure when I will be back. Surely hoping this was just a one time thing.

Just like you, I found this place on Google maps and it was well worth the trip. They have authentic Hispanic food. I think based outta Honduras, the atmosphere was fine. Didn’t really feel the Latin experience through decor, but I’m glad that the servers let me practice my Spanish with them. They were so nice and welcoming. The food portions were huge and it was tasty the first day bonus for my lunch the next day. I had some real guava juice it was really good. I can see myself coming there just for the juice alone. Highly recommend!

since moving down to the area finding good mexican food has been a struggle. the food is either sub-par or the food is pretty good but crazy expensive. this place hits both boxes. The food was very good. The price was just right, about $30 for two adults with no alcohol. the salsa wasn’t a standard I’d say american salsa that nasty blan tomato paste they put out at most places. this had tons of flavor as well as tasted very fresh. I will say there hotter salsa which is usually my go to just tasted like Puréd Jalapeño I’d go back to the drawing board for that one. The food on the other had was very good, filling, and as mentioned very well priced. we will be going back during happy hour for some good food and hopefully better margs.

Oh man, was this delicious! I miss having this food locally, so I will def be making a trip back up here. Everything was cooked perfectly and soooo yummy. My lovely server made sure my weird, picky eating requests were honored. Everything was hot and fresh and perfect! Thank you so much! My heart and tummy are happy 😀
