FOUND A NAIL IN MY SALAD. My lady and I went here for our first time for dinner. I ordered a Caesar salad as a side to my dish. After I had taken a bite I looked down and saw a somebody’s fake nail laying in my salad. (See pic) I notified the server and she said “oh my, I’ll take care of that” and got me a new salad. The manager came over and said he was aware of the situation but didn’t know how it happened because they did not allow staff to wear fake nails. There was at least 2 staff members with those type of nails from what I saw. When the server brought my check she said the salad had been taken off which I thought was a given and was surprised they hadn’t comped my entire meal. I went to the manager and asked him if he could comp my meal and I’d still pay for my lady’s and it would help the review I’d be leaving. He reminded me he’d already comped the salad and didn’t know how the nail had gotten there and I asked if they made their own salad and he said they did. I replied that it didn’t make sense. He had me wait while he went to ask someone else about comping my side of the meal and when he came back he was addimate about only comping the salad. I’m not one to complain and most places would comp the entire meal not just the salad because of the disgusting dining experience and their obligation to please the customer. Food was good, service horrible.

This was the best meal I had while in all of South Dakota for a week. Delicious! Lunch. The gentleman that served me was also a firefighter in Spearfish. He was kind and patient and helpful. I really enjoyed my meal. I covered the entire south end of SD from state line to state line. Hands down, best meal & experience. Will return for sure next trip to SD

We were visiting from Texas doing the tourist thing. My brother and I really wanted to try this place, but we had our very picky niece with us. She ordered very basic and went with plain spaghetti and she ate it all! She loved the sauce. My brother had the gnocchi (first time, we’re from Texas) based on server recommendations, and it was a huge hit. I had penne with the vodka sauce, also amazing. Who expects to get this level of Italian food in South Dakota? It was amazing!!

My wife and I love living in South Dakota and the only thing we miss from Connecticut is the Italian food. We don’t have any Italian food stores or deli’s in the Rapid city area! We only found one Italian restaurant, and the food was ok. The only good Italian restaurant in this area in our opinion is Olive Garden! Well we found an Italian restaurant in Spearfish South Dakota called Nonna’s Kitchen. We wanted to try this place on my wife’s birthday, but they were closed. We went today and the food was fantastic! Almost as good as CT and New York but very good for this area. We ate like kings and the bill was very reasonable for what we had. They even gave us a discount because I mentioned my wife’s birthday. We both had beer, bruschetta with mozzarella, caprese, salad, fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, chicken Parmesan, Nonna’s cannoli’s, coffee and my wife had a Limoncello! The portions were a good size and we were pleased with our servicer Taylor. I even got to talk to one of the owner’s. We definitely will be going to this restaurant more often!

I’ve been to Nonna’s Kitchen about five to six times, and they’ve always done a great job. However, when I recently ordered two tiramisus to go, I was a bit disappointed with how they looked—they were smashed and melted when I received them but the food was really good. (My total was $22 even)

The first time we ate here shortly after the new owners took over it was excellent. This time it was extremely disappointing, after ordering it took over 90 minutes to receive our food. Which then was pedestrian at best, the sausage and pepper were some of, if not the worst I have ever had. The sausage was cut into very thin “coins” and had the texture of a hot dog, the finest grind of any Italian sausage I have ever had anywhere in the world. A medium to coarse texture is considered “traditional” I’ve also never experienced the way it was cut so thin, a typical serving would have whole pieces at least 3″ long.
The Shrimp scampi was OK but nothing to write home about, though the deserts were good. All in all I will be reluctant to return.

Nonna’s Kitchen is a fantastic establishment with wonderful ambiance and shique decor. Their staff is friendly and of course the food being amazing tops it all off. I have had Italian food in New York and Chicago, and I haven’t found food as good as this outside a major city. Service was very cordial, and conscientious. My water glass was never empty and the waiter was very attentive. Even with two floors the atmosphere was very cozy. The lasagna, though a bit too salty, was very good. Would return anytime I’m back in town.

DISAPPOINTED!! Ugh. We live near Rapid City and there aren’t great Italian options, we hoped we had found one in Nonna’s Kitchen but that was absolutely not the case.
The best part of the meal was the complimentary bread and goat cheese spread they give you while you wait.
We ordered the spinach artichoke dip was … well not. It tastes like garlic and lemon. It didn’t taste bad but it just wasn’t spinach/artichoke.
– Our meals were so disappointing as well. My wife ordered Alfredo, it came out hot but very very bland. After looking at photos on Google maps, she noticed her meal didn’t even seem to have seasoning flakes in her meal.
– I had the spaghetti and meatballs. The noodles were COLD! And the sauce was again… BLAND! The meatballs were hot and tasted good though.
After reading other reviews, bland food is a common complaint so I don’t think we’ll give it a second chance, which is sad but our search for Italian food will continue.

We stopped at Nonna’s Kitchen on a Friday night while traveling and specifically stayed in Spearfish to eat here. Unfortunately, the service from our server, Abigail S., was awful.
She did not mention specials or the soup of the night until prompted. Not a huge deal we get when things get busy. We ordered the Cacio de Pepe, which we were unfamiliar with. While we understood it contained black pepper, the dish was so overwhelmingly peppery it was inedible after two bites.
Instead of offering a solution, our server snapped at us and said it should have been “obvious” it would be spicy because it was in the name. No apology, no attempt to fix the issue, and no follow-up at all. When ordering a dish we’re not familiar with, that might have been a prime opportunity to explain further as she is the expert. She never returned to our table—we had to flag her down just to get our checks.
When paying, we left $40 cash and a card, which should clearly indicate the cash goes toward the bill and the remainder on the card. She charged the card in full, apparently assuming the cash was her tip. When questioned, she snapped at us again and blamed us for not being clear. We would have gladly clarified—had she been willing to communicate respectfully.
The food issue was minor compared to the disrespectful, dismissive, and unprofessional treatment. This visit ensured we will not be returning to a restaurant we once enjoyed.
