This is probably the best sushi you’ll find in the area. The rice is fresh and fluffy and there’s a huge variety of seasonal fish from Japan. Premium items like Bafun Uni, Bluefin Tuna and Kinmedai really shined at this restaurant. Will definitely be back to try Omakase menu with Chef Michael ☺️

Fantastic culinary experience.
Owner and staff are amazing.
Never in my ate such a wide variety of sashimi, from sea urchin to fish liver everything was a delicious culinary adventure.
We let owner order for us, so we got to experience seafood I would’ve never of thought of ordering in my life.

Food is good but not worth the price. Service is notch though. Probably won’t come back again as you can find much better value for equally good food elsewhere

We ordered the king salmon sashimi—it was very fresh, creamy, and tender. We also tried Taka’s signature set, which included miso soup, a small bowl of edamame, a house roll, and five pieces of aburi. Additionally, we ordered a wagyu aburi and a caterpillar roll. All the rolls were delicious. The aburi was fresh, though they all tasted quite similar due to the same sauce on top. The miso soup was just average, with only two slices of mushroom. The wagyu aburi was tender, but the portion felt small, especially considering it costs $12 per piece.

Would revisit if I’m in White Rock again.

As mentioned in other reviews, the quality of the food has declined significantly. It was once of exceptional quality, even when it was quite expensive. These photographs were taken ten years ago, when we celebrated my sister’s birthday. Everyone present joined it. However, the taste has completely vanished, even though the appearance of the food has remained unchanged over the past decade. It is a sad state of affairs.

We had lunch here — just two people — and the total came out to $650. For that kind of price, we expected high-quality food and professional service. Instead, the food was average, the service was slow, and the overall experience was disappointing.

What truly shocked me was the owner’s attitude. He spoke rudely and made extremely disrespectful assumptions about me. I overheard him telling others that I must be “the type of woman who regularly brings different men here to get ripped off.” Absolutely unacceptable.

The arrogance is unbelievable — acting as if this place is some top-tier omakase when the food and service don’t even come close.

This was one of the most unprofessional and insulting dining experiences I’ve ever had. Definitely not worth the money, not worth the time, and absolutely not a place I would recommend to anyone. Vancouver is a small community — people talk. A little respect would go a long way.

Been going to Taka for many years and have experienced its transformation. Some dishes are different than before and they added quite many new high end Japanese fish than before. I think overall quality still very good. Fish r consistently fresh and u could tell the owner paid a lot of attention to details. Strongly recommend to try if u like fresh authentic Japanese local seafoods.

Taka’s Sushi used to be amazing and super popular, but my recent visit was just so-so. The Bento set felt quite pricey for what you get, and overall, the quality isn’t what it used to be. Hoping they bring back the old standards!

The attention to detail is always appreciated here but it seems like they have new staff which is being trained as they go.

The ingredients are fresh and special menu selections are generally worth a try. Aside from seafood selections, the Foie Gras was acceptable but not out of this world.

Be aware that you are there to relax and enjoy. The entire meal will take some time so if you don’t have an hour, you are not going to get the whole meal experience.

Until recently, Taka was undoubtedly one of our favorite Japanese restaurants, a cherished place we frequented often. The fresh and delightful selection of sushi and sashimi was simply unparalleled, leaving us with a memorable culinary experience each time.

However, as of late, we have noticed a slight shift in the dynamics of the restaurant. The prices of some of their signature fish dishes seem to have soared, making the overall dining experience somewhat costlier than before. With this, we find ourselves contemplating our orders more carefully, opting for more budget-friendly options and occasionally compromising on our usual indulgences.

Moreover, the growing popularity of aburi-style sushi in many other establishments has taken a toll on Taka’s clientele. While the allure of perfectly seared fish and the play of flavors has captivated many, it has also led us and others to explore these alternative sushi spots, drawing us away from our once-beloved haunt.

Another factor that has subtly impacted our preference for Taka is the noticeable decrease in available seating. Previously, securing a table was relatively hassle-free, but now it seems like a challenge. Perhaps the combination of loyal patrons and the restaurant’s modest space has led to this spatial constraint, affecting the overall comfort and convenience of dining there.

Nonetheless, despite these recent changes, Taka remains a place with fond memories, and we might still return for special occasions or when we crave the unique flavors that only they can offer. Yet, for now, we find ourselves exploring other Japanese eateries in search of new culinary delights and dining experiences.
