The Mill Bar and Grill – A Welcoming Find in Sesser
Stepping into The Mill Bar and Grill in Sesser on a recent Saturday, just after 11:15 AM, I confess I almost turned away. The parking lot was entirely empty, leading me to believe they might not even be open yet. However, a quick check of the door confirmed they were indeed welcoming patrons.
Upon entering, the dining area was, at that moment, completely empty, allowing us to choose our seating freely. Our server, who was both friendly and efficient, quickly appeared to take our drink orders and provide menus. While she retrieved our beverages, we perused the offerings.
She then enthusiastically informed us of the day’s special: a Cajun catfish sandwich served with fries. Intrigued, and with a desire for something warm and fresh, we decided to give it a try.
Our food arrived in a remarkably timely fashion, a welcome surprise given the quiet atmosphere. Both the catfish and fries were piping hot and tasted distinctly fresh. The flavor was good, though I must confess, the “Cajun” aspect was a bit subtle for my palate. There was a sauce drizzled over the fish, but it didn’t impart the robust, spicy kick one typically associates with Cajun seasoning. That being said, the fish itself was well-cooked, and the fries were perfectly crispy.
What truly elevated the experience was the service. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and her friendly demeanor made for a very pleasant interaction. Interestingly, as we were enjoying our meal, other patrons began to arrive, and there was a steady flow of customers coming and going as we prepared to leave. This added a nice touch of local life to the otherwise quiet start.
Overall, despite the initial quiet, The Mill Bar and Grill delivered a good dining experience. The food was hot and fresh, and the service was fast and friendly. We left feeling satisfied and will certainly be returning to explore more of their menu.

I have been to the Mill many times to dine in and to pick up to go orders. The workers are overall very nice. HOWEVER, I got my to go order tonight 10/26/25 and noticed my baked potato was not in the bag while there. After an additional 15 minutes, the potato showed up. Looking down into my bag, I assumed my shrimp were also in the bag with my husband’s chicken dinner. I should have checked. I got home with a chicken dinner, potato, and NO shrimp. My shrimp was not in the bag. I called the Mill and was very nice about it thinking I wouId need to make a trip back. I got nothing but accusations that they remembered putting it in my bag…just liked they remebered putting my baked potato in the bag. They would not DO ANYTHING to make good on a HANDFULL of shrimp. Basically called me a liar and offered nothing. I asked for a manager and was told they were not working. Put me on hold forever. I called back . They kept stating they put it in my bag, and I was wrong multiple times. Then hung up on me! I paid with tip $37 for a chicken dinner and a baked potato. To be so unskilled to handle customer service issues makes me wonder who is actually running this place. Argues back over a half a dozen shrimp. I thought I had heard somewhere, “The customer is always right.” However maybe at the Mill, “The customers always wrong.” It woud take alot for me to go back if ever. Very dissappointed on hiw this was handled.

The service was outstanding, our waitress was amazing. Very cheerful and friendly. The establishment was very neat and clean. There is plenty of seating available.
The food was absolutely delicious, we decided on hamburgers. I had regular french fries and my husband chose the seasoned fries. The burgers are a ½ pound of deliciousness. The fries were perfectly cooked. This was the first place since moving to Southern IL that had Boudin Balls as an appetizer. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. Tender on the inside with a light crispiness on the outside. Looking forward to having more of the Boudin Balls and trying other items on their menu. Noticed that they offer fresh pork rinds, we saw a couple plates go by, they looked absolutely amazing and the portions were large.
UPDATE: 8/31/23
Went on a Thursday to try their .55¢ wings, I had the Bourbon wings. Very nice sized wings. They have a nice selection of different flavors.

Excellent fresh Ceasar Salad with shrimp. Three of us ate for under $45. Definitely trying the fried fish next time. I saw it on another order and looked delicious. Servers were very pleasant and stopped by our table at least 2 times. Clean but home atmosphere. Bar was in the main room and blue collar workers were enjoying their lunches there. Separate slots room away from dining area. Highly recommend.

First time visit, certainly not the last. The sandwich and appetizer menu make choosing just one difficult. My friend ordered the green beans and I got the onion strings. I ordered the Cajun catfish sandwich without the bread. My friend had the fried cod.. the tarter sauce and coleslaw were excellent. I hear that fried chicken on Sundays is excellent

Food was very good. I like cooler indoor temps but this was a meat locker. We had to keep going outside several times during our meal just to warm up. We got jackets out of the cars but we still froze. Maybe it would be better if the dining room was full. Waitress had been well aware of the problem.

Loved this place..Food was amazing..Service was awesome..We went at almost 8 p.m at night when they were almost done serving food but they still gave the best service. We were down in Sesser camping for the weekend so knew we had to go grab a bit to eat the first night since we didn’t get food that first night since we were late getting in.

The girls were very busy with a full house of a car club. They were all accommodating and friendly. We sat outside the main restaurant in the beer garden. It was inside, nice breeze, beautiful sunset. The food is sandwiches, fries, a few salads, mostly fried foods. We all had something different from clams to chicken wings and it was all good. A unique and fun bar and grill.
