Really good food, authentic basque dishes, steaks, seafood , good burguers, omg their garlic butter fried chicken ‍ Also banquet rooms to book your any occasion party’s, company meetings etc,,, awesome service, open its doors on 1969 out of town, and at this location on 1971, 100% recommended

This is the place if I have cravings for Cabbage soup. We always have it to go. Even they change ownership but the flavor still the same. The guy that took our order was nice. And the place is clean. I bet some food are delicious. And also the fried chicken was delicious. I’ll order than next time Definitely will be back again.

Yesterday I went to try Chalet for the first time with my mom and we left with a full belly and happy hearts.
The food was deliscious! I had never tried Basque food before but always had wanted to!
The best part for me was the customer service though, Rafa and staff made me feel like a princess for my bday!
All in all I highly recommend Chalet!

Food was very good, service was okay. Atmosphere hasn’t been updated since the 70s. My number 2 spot in Bakersfield for Basque Food. Nothing can ever hold a candle to Woolgrowers which I believe is number one compared to any other Basque restaurant I’ve ever had. Chalet Basque is 100 times better than Benjis. My main judgment of Basque food is first and foremost the pickled tongue and next is the rack of lamb, then how everything else is as in everything Basque restaurants serve before the entree. Thank you, not digging against Chalet, no real problems, just giving out my honest personal opinion.

This experience was unique to us, because the environment of the restaurant was exquisite, and the menu looked so impressive and low priced for what it was. But, when my halibut arrived, it was the most unimpressive grilled halibut I’ve had. It’s sad, because halibut is usually amazing. This restaurant has so much potential, but they need to get a real chef in there to fix some of their important cooking issues. The staff is very kind, and I don’t have the heart to tell them the truth about the unimpressive halibut. I really want this restaurant to improve so that it’s a pride of Bakersfield, like it probably used to be. Basque food is amazing. I want people who go there to have a 5 star experience when it comes to the food. They were 5 stars for everything but the main courses. The soup, bread and beans is all very yummy. We also got the orange glazed duck, and didn’t really like it, but I’ve never had it before to have anything to compare it to. The texture was rubbery.
I will probably try this restaurant again someday to see if they improve, but it’s difficult to make that gamble when there are other Basque restaurants to choose from here.

Their food is some hit and mostly miss. Out of the 6 mains we ordered 1 (crispy garlic chicken) was good, 3 fish dishes were made with the same overly sweet sauce so we ate only a little and bagged to go thinking we could fix it at home but ended up tossing in the trash a few days later. 1 lamb dish (recommended by waiter) was average and 1 steak dish was inconsistently cooked (rare in some part and medium in other vs the requested medium rare). It was a disappointment considering all the good reviews we read. So while the 3 zone steak could be a one time mistake made by an inattentive cook, the 3 fish dishes isn’t something salvageable at any time. This is our first time trying French Basque and could be our last. I’m inclined to give French Basque another try (somewhere else though ) and just by myself as I’m pretty sure the other 5 companions were apprehensive with this cuisine for life!!!

What an amazing experience! I booked a table for 19 people for a birthday celebration. The service was top notch! The staff was completely attentive and asked every step of the way to make sure everything went smoothly for my mom’s birthday. Food was great! I do not have one thing to critique. Thank you Chalet Basque for such a memorable night and such personal attentive service. Truly Impressed!

I feel like this place is very polarizing. Either you love it or you hate it. My review is for the food as I had very minimal interaction with the place and the staff.

I phoned in an order and the guy who took my order seemed like he was in a hurry. He sounded cold and curt, as well. He got my order right, though. When I arrived at the place, he spotted me right away after serving food to a couple, then disappeared into the kitchen for about 5 to 7 minutes. He came out with my order and he was talking. I thought he was talking to me! Apparently, he was also on the phone taking orders. He processed my order, gave me the receipts to sign, and left right away without waiting for me to finish signing. Y’all, this guy is multitasking! I can understand why he would be frazzled. We would be too if we’re the waiter, cashier, and receptionist, as well, all rolled into one.

The place itself could use an update and some deep cleaning. It was quite dark, with an old world feel to it. I can understand the bar area being dark, but the tables were not well-lit, either.

Now the food! Escargot: very good! Shrimp scampi: good! Pickled beef tongue: excellent! The beef bourguignon was disappointing. The meat wasn’t as tender and the sauce itself lacked depth of flavor. It looked sad. You’re better off making it yourself at home.

The fried chicken with garlic butter was good! Well-cooked and well-seasoned, I couldn’t find anything negative about it. It was very crispy and the meat was tender. They were very generous with the butter, as well. Lastly, the pork chop a la creme was very rich and flavorful. However, the meat was tough. Although the sauce was a joy to have, the toughness of the meat takes away so much from the meal.

Will I recommend the place? For food yes. With a little caveat about the ambience and service.
