Hunger Junction is an absolute gem located at the crossroads of the Rockies, and it left us thoroughly impressed with its exceptional service and delicious food.
Firstly, the service was the real highlight of our visit. Despite ordering at the takeout window, we were greeted warmly and efficiently guided to a cozy inside dining room. The staff was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and made us feel like valued guests from start to finish.
Now, onto the food – it was phenomenal! I indulged in the Rocky Mountain Fries topped with pulled pork, and every bite was a burst of flavor. The fries were perfectly crispy, and the pulled pork was tender and savory, topped with just the right amount of barbecue goodness. My wife opted for the Rib Plate, and she was delighted with the fall-off-the-bone tender ribs and delectable barbecue sauce.
The atmosphere inside was welcoming and relaxed, offering a perfect setting to enjoy our meal. Despite ordering takeout, the dining experience felt personalized and enjoyable, thanks to the warm hospitality of the staff.

The couple running this restaurant are genuinely friendly, good-hearted people. They extended my pup and me a couple gestures of kindness that may have seemed small, but they unknowingly turned my evening around.
I had the Reuben based on their recommendation – the beef had been cooked in a smoker for 14hrs if I remember correctly – easily the best corned beef I’ve ever had. I opted for fried okra instead of fries and it was perfectly crispy. I highly recommend this place if you’re craving comfort food.

It was off season. The dining area is separate from the order /pick up area, It was a little cool in there. The food was delicious, plentiful and heat hot, though I did have the ghost pepper patty melt it wasn’t spice hot. Just yummy.

Last night, after a long day of cleaning, packing and a 5-hour drive, we finally stopped for supper in Poncha Springs, selecting the Hunger Shack, right next door to the gas station What a great choice! Wow! Terrific burger, yummy and spicy philly steak in a bun, and THE best, hottest, crispiest and tastiest french fries this (or that) side of the Mississippi! The price was very reasonable and the quantities enormous! We met the manager, who warmly welcomed us, and let us eat inside in a charming dining area, as a storm was brewing outside and the wind was too strong to sit outside. When we left, we realised it was way past closing time and they had never said a word when they took our order….just whipped up a fantastic dinner! Good service, great food and Colorado friendliness are NOT dead..they are alive and well at the Hunger Shack in Poncha Springs! (PS Thank you, sir, for the choc. Mint chip ice cream cone..my fave!)

I got the pulled pork plate With potato salad and cowboy beans on the side, to go. The potato salad, Was perfect and cold with a slight crunch and mustard zing. The beans were unique with a rich sauce and molasses BBQ taste. The pulled pork was smoked well rubbed and juicy, probably the best I’ll ever have. BBQ sauce on the side was amazing also but didn’t need much as the meat was so amazing.

Recently visited and were given fabulous free ice cream (Toasted Pina Colada, I think) by the person I assume was the proprietor! He didn’t know us, we didn’t know him. We were just sitting outside at a table in the late afternoon. There were three of us and he gave us each a huge bowl! Not only was the ice cream amazing, but that act of kindness will stick with us for future visits. Thank you!
