Reviews
Jalepeño’s in Annapolis proved once again why it’s a beloved local gem. After initially declining our large-party reservation due to a packed Saturday night, the manager had a change of heart and personally called my husband just four minutes later—demonstrating remarkable empathy and commitment to their guests. That gesture alone set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
Despite the tight turnaround and full house, the service was flawless. Our table of about a dozen was served starters and entrees with perfect timing—no delays, no mix-ups, and every dish arrived fresh and beautifully prepared. The coordination required for such precision under pressure speaks volumes about the team’s professionalism.
Jalepeño’s proudly serves more than just Mexican cuisine—it’s a celebration of Latin American flavors, with standout dishes from Spain, Cuba, and across South America. This diversity shone through our meal, impressing even our guests from Spain, Colombia, and discerning food cities like Chicago and San Francisco. From the rich Ropa Vieja to the elegant Paella Marinera and Vieras con Azafrán, every plate reflected authenticity and care.
The menu’s fusion of Mexican and Spanish tapas, saffron-infused rice dishes, and bold moles confirms Jalepeño’s reputation as one of Annapolis’ finest. The Enchiladas de Mole, served with traditional Oaxacan dark mole, were a standout—smoky, complex, and perfectly balanced.
We left not only satisfied but deeply grateful—for the second chance at a reservation, for the warmth of the staff, and for a meal that honored both our celebration and the rich culinary traditions on display.
A heartfelt thank you, Jalepeño’s. You’ve earned loyal patrons once more.
The food was delicious and we can recommend the tamales, shrimp burrito, masita cubana, ropa vieja, guacamole, and, of course, the margaritas and red sangria. Those were just the items we had, but I am sure everything else is equally satisfying.
While I would have preferred larger pieces of chicken instead of shredded chicken, the dish worked. It’s not spicy and not over salted. Felt full and satisfied. We will return to try more dishes.
I never thought I’d be writing this review, because I’ve been a fan of Jalapeños in Annapolis for decades. Unfortunately, today’s experience was so disappointing that I feel it’s necessary to share.
At 4pm yesterday, two friends and I arrived for Happy Hour. One of my friends is a senior, recovering from a stroke, and uses a cane. She was clearly unable to sit comfortably or safely at the high bar stools, so the host kindly seated us at a nearby table with regular chairs in the dining area. The restaurant was completely empty – because it was Monday at 4pm
Shortly after, we were told the manager needed to “approve” Happy Hour service at that table. When he arrived, his response was that if he allowed it for us, he’d “have to allow it for everyone.” This, despite the fact that THE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY and we have supported this restaurant for years at countless gatherings for lunches, happy hours and dinners. This is also a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, by the way.
We left, and sadly, we won’t be returning. To deny a loyal customer–who has accessibility needs–a simple accommodation in an empty restaurant shows a complete lack of customer service and compassion.
After decades of being one of our local favorites, Jalapeños has lost us as customers. Deeply disappointing.
