The food was great, top notch. But the female cashier was very rude when I was giving my order. I have a speech impediment and it’s hard for me to communicate. So I thought the cashier would be respectful since it’s obvious I have that and anyone can guess it. During my order she looked very annoyed and mad in a way. She kept interrupting me nonstop and went to the kitchen to bring another worker to ask me more about my order. I don’t understand what was the point of that. If you work at a restaurant or a food chain, you should have that basic human decency since you get to interact with hundreds of people in a day. And I should she should take more lessons on that and how to be patient. She gets paid to do that. It happened a few weeks ago. Also she was being very polite and nice to some customers and it was opposite in my case. Maybe because of my race? Or my accent? These are not acceptable behavior and I am truly hurt.

Upon arriving walks inside Captain Jay’s. Noticed a guy in the kitchen cooking. I also saw him grabbed hand full of okra put in fryer. Sir where are your gloves your touching customers FOOD. Young lady comes in from outside went in the kitchen she didn’t stop at the sink to wash her hands. Miss you just came from outside touching door knobs and to her long hair wasn’t cover with a hair net. Let’s do better people. SMH

I used to frequent this Captain Jay’s location because it consistently delivered the freshest and most delicious fried food in the area. Unfortunately, my recent visit was deeply disappointing.
The display cooler was a major red flag, with flies visibly floating at the bottom in what appeared to be stagnant, contaminated water. This is not only unsanitary but also raises serious concerns about the health and safety practices at this establishment. Additionally, there were open sauce containers that had spilled, creating an unclean and unprofessional appearance.
The service also left much to be desired. One staff member, a Chinese lady, seemed overwhelmed and overstimulated, struggling to multitask during a busy time. While I understand that running a food service operation can be stressful, it was evident that better training and support are needed to ensure smooth operations and a positive customer experience.
This used to be a go-to spot for quality food, but the current state of the location has me questioning if I’ll return. Cleanliness, food safety, and effective service are critical for any restaurant, and unfortunately, this visit failed on all fronts. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements to restore this location to its former standard.

Yesterday was my first time going to Captain Jay’s in Hamtramck. I used to think was it was haram but they told me everything was halal. So I tried it, and it was delicious. Good for the price and good customer service. I would come back for sure.

Food fresh but staff is the worst , and the refund policy needs adjusting. I PAID for shrimp and only AFTERWARDS did they inform me they don’t have cocktail sauce . I’m pregnant and can’t eat the shrimp without sauce and they said no refund . They lost a loyal customer today. I do not recommend this location any longer

Food was horrible — perch was cooked too long and was all breading the JUMBO shrimp weren’t very jumbo to say the least. No sauce cups come with the food so if you get shrimp or fish you have to order 50¢ cups of cocktail and tarter that aren’t even filled a quarter of the way. The cashier was the best thing they had going for them. The cook was on his cellphone while cooking like he had somewhere better to be. Never again will I visit.

So this evening was my third time at Captain Jay’s in Hamtramck on Jos Campau the first time I ordered legs,thighs and wings the second time I ordered wings the chicken was delicious and perfectly fried today was different…..there was two younger men cooking may have been in their late teens early twenties I ordered two pieces of whiting which was fried so long you would think your were eating cracklings and the chicken was also fried too long it was dry and salty I’m very irritated I was just getting off work and didn’t feel like cooking to the manager your employees may need more training

This is my second time ordering from this place. The first time we ordered we got the 20 pc dark, and cole slaw. The chicken tasted good but not as fresh as they claim. I think the lemon pepper on top is what made it taste good. What we were really upset was the size of the chicken. The drumsticks were so tiny, there were maybe 5 small ones and 5 medium sizes ones. Since it was our first time ordering we thought it’s ok, maybe it’s just once right?!
We ordered a second time, I actually didn’t want to order but my husband ordered without me knowing as i only asked for pizza little casers next door.
So he brought it and this time we both are upset after seeing the chicken. The thighs seemed like they were cut in half and all we got was the bone part and a little meat. The drumsticks are again small but not all. This time we both voted no more chicken from this place… for the price and the size it’s not worth it.
The quality isn’t so bad but like I said earlier, it doesn’t taste like fresh chicken… reminds me frozen chicken from the stores but that lemon pepper made it tasty.

It’s like we get 10 pcs of good chicken and 10 pcs of bad chicken. So in the end it’s not worth $15.99 – this is a scam!!!! Really horrible and they hid all the small and weird looking broken chicken in the bottom.
