We recently had my daughter’s wedding and reception at Cottonwood. The service, ambience, and food were all fabulous. I love how the restaurant worked with us to plan the best possible menu for our budget and the right quantities. They were able to accommodate a dj/dancing, a photo booth, outdoor ceremony, and indoor dinner. Everything was perfect.

My best friend and I arrived for a 7:15 pm reservation and were immediately seated on the outdoor patio as we requested. We were greeted by Kate, who hands-down has to be the best server in this area. She was kind, knowledgeable, friendly & made us feel very welcome. Throughout the meal, she checked on us frequently and made sure we had everything we needed for dinner. The assistant staff were outstanding as well, from refilling our water to delivering beverages from the bar, and delivering our food. Everything was calm, fluid, delicious, rustic-simple-elegance, efficient, & top-notch. We never felt rushed and we had a lovely evening looking over downtown Truckee. Every table had an amazing view. We were able to pay our bill from our table using an online service that was streamlined and simple. Easiest platform I’ve ever used to pay a bill.
Food- we ordered the bread (date butter, yes thank you) My best friend had the French onion soup. We shared the cauliflower appetizer. I had the buratta & squash. Everything was 10/10. We are not vegan but just wanted something light tonight.

We were really disappointed with this experience. We drove in for our first visit and had a 6:45 pm reservation for two. We were seated at a very small two-top pushed against a wall right next to the kitchen entrance. I had a direct view of staff going in and out, and my husband had his back to it, constantly feeling the noise and traffic behind him.
The restaurant itself is beautiful. Most tables overlook the view, the lighting is lovely, and the space feels thoughtfully designed. Unfortunately, none of that applied to our table. It felt like an afterthought and honestly not appropriate for a reservation, or for a restaurant of this caliber.
We politely asked to be reseated and were told they were fully booked and couldn’t accommodate us. When we let them know we were going to leave because the table and constant kitchen activity made the experience uncomfortable, the manager’s response felt dismissive, as if it didn’t matter.
If you’re dining as a party of two, I strongly recommend calling ahead to ensure you’re not seated at the small table against the wall by the kitchen. We may give it another try in the future, but only by booking a table for four to avoid being placed there again.

Everywhere in town was packed last night so we ended up at Cottonwood on a 6 top in the lounge where yes the music was extremely loud, as was the bar, which was filled with a 50 person birthday party. However, the food was all very good. The service was also great. We enjoyed the music, too.

Sometimes, you find a restaurant that just makes you comfortable. Cottonwood is that type of place. From the moment you enter, it feels almost like home.
It has the “old Tahoe” feelings, too. I didn’t realize how much i missed the old days.

Cottonwood has been a longtime favorite of ours. We come here to celebrate special occasions, or even just for a fun night out! Our absolute favorites are the bread with homemade DATE (yes!!) butter, caesar salad with homemade dressing which is to die for, the black bean burger and fried chicken sandwich. Another favorite is the chicken with house made coriander-lime fettucine. On top of that, their hand-crafted cocktails are truly top-notch, rotating for the seasons. Last but not least – the CARROT CAKE!! Simply the best I’ve had in my life and it’s consistently good. Service is consistently good and the ambience can’t be beat – cozy and overlooks downtown Truckee.

We hadn’t been to Cottonwood since before the pandemic. I’d heard it had struggled but it is definitely up to prior standards. The Brussel Sprouts were a delightful surprise, sweet and cooked with apples and bacon. I had the ginger carrot soup which was strong on the ginger, my husband had the French Onion soup which was really good and not too cheesy.
My salmon was so big I almost couldn’t finish it- all the portions were large but this was the largest cut of fish I’ve ever had in a restaurant. It was perfectly cooked and had a really nice seasoning. My husband had the short ribs, also a good size portion, and he said it just melted in his mouth.
If you haven’t been, Cottonwood sits on the old town hill by the “Hilltop” sign and at night you over look old town Truckee, all lit up. It’s a great view, very chill atmosphere and great food. Good wine list too!

This is a wonderful restaurant with no downsides. Had a round of drinks at the bar before dinner at our table (with a beautiful view of Truckee!) with no issue about transferring the bill out to us. Reservation was on time with no delay. Service was superb. No waiting, no mistakes, all good. Food, wine, were delicious. Really nice, all the way around. Plus, plenty of easy parking right outside of the restaurant. I recommend that you give this place a try. I intend to become a regular.

This place has tons of character. Set in what looks like an old barn there are lots of old skis, photos, and paintings that make the atmosphere great. The view over Truckee is amazing as well. My elk was to die for.
