Inside is very nice and the staff were kind, professional and overall wonderful. These aren’t my issues. The food cost-wise is definitely on the higher end, and for the taste and portion size, wasn’t worth it to me. I got the Twin Dragon Roll and Spicy Salmon Roll. I did obviously eat some of it. Both were lacking in flavor and relied on sauce, which a side of you had to pay extra for. Not the worst experience, and I’m sure others have had better. I’m also happy to support small businesses, but there are other places in the area that are cheaper with bigger portion sizes.

It’s rare to find a new restaurant that nails their service and food right out of the gate, but J1 delivered! This little spot was only in their first week when we went, but their team of ensured a seamless opening, and it was impressive to see. The menu was full of fresh sushi with creative rolls, as well as Japanese, Chinese, and Thai dishes to choose from. We loved the ambiance here, and the staff couldn’t have been kinder! Truly a gem that Monroe is very lucky to have!

The food was delicious! Soft warm rice and crispy Katsu Chicken (Japanese Fried Chicken). We ordered a Sashimi Appetizer and they arranged it like an adorable Easter basket. Service was very friendly! A great place for lunch or dinner!

This was our first time trying J1 Sushi, and we were impressed! The place has a cozy, really nice vibe that makes it a great spot for dinner. The service was awesome, and the staff were so kind and welcoming.
We started with the pork gyoza, spicy edamame, and crab rangoon, all of which were amazing. For our main dishes, we had the spicy crab roll, teriyaki chicken, General Tso’s chicken, sesame chicken, and hibachi noodles, and everything was a solid 10/10.
We’ll definitely be returning to try more from the menu and can’t wait to come back again!

This is a GREAT addition to Monroe. Inside is gorgeous, staff is great and the sushi is probably the best I have had in Monroe or Trumbull. Glad to have them and we can’t wait to go back.

Went on opening day and I was pleasantly surprised. Usually restaurants struggle when they first open but J1 was amazing ! Every meal tastes fresh and flavorful. Even my kids ate everything they ordered. We will definitely be returning.

Hello, my name is Nick, and I felt the need to leave a second review. I’ve been coming to j1 sushi for a while since my first review and I must say they have surprisingly improved apon the already amazing experience since then. Their specials such as the king salmon and the toro have been evolved into the king salmon combo and the toro combo. The amazing flavors I experienced the first time have been elevated further. Their king salmon combo and toro combo offers a variety of offerings far surpassing it’s value. You get 3 sushi pieces, 3 sashimi pieces, and a sushi roll for each combo you order, all with the delicate black truffle along with ginger and wasabi. Not to mention the new addition of the surf and turf. A beautiful balance of shrimp tempura with an amazing topping of wagyu beef, the flavors combine so nicely that it has been a staple since the first time I’ve tried it. I cannot recommend these more. The fish tastes as if it was brought right from the fishing boat to the plate. Such a clean fresh flavor that envelopes your taste buds in a feeling that is so refined and amazing that you will find yourself pausing between each bite. The service is still just as amazing and attentive as the first review everyone is so kind and thoughtful, and the drinks have only gotten better. My new favorite is the late blossom, the jasmine leaves a sweet longing sense of laying in a field of blossoming flowers as the wind dances with the petals around you. The drink is well balanced, sweet with a mostly floral taste that unwinds the mind after a long week. If you are thinking about dining here I promise you your time will be well spent and before long you will be craving more of their lovely drinks and dishes.

Been here a couple of times and take out as well. I love their salmon lovers . 2nite however the meal changed to some kind of fish eggs on top of 5 peices of sushi. I also noticed the sashimi peices are now HALF the size they normally are. This was a disappointing change from the normal. The salmon lovers isnt cheap it’s always been a solid meal but tonight Im very disappointed.

I’ve been here for takeout and dine-in now and both experiences were excellent. The staff is incredibly welcoming, and the menu has a variety of great options. Everything was delicious and the sushi was extremely fresh.
The restaurant itself is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully decorated giving it an upscale feel while still being comfortable for an everyday meal.
I hope Monroe opens more restaurants just like this, and I truly hope J1 is here for a very long time.
